Places/sites to buy used games?

  • People always talk about how Gamestop sucks, and they rip people off. But I have never really heard of any alternatives, besides sites like Ebay.

Suggestions on places/sites that sell SNES games would be nice as well.

    TIA.

  • Why would you need something other than eBay?

  • There are no alternative stores besides local small places. Which is a shame, cause GameStop really is a rip off and I heard theyre about to raise prices.

Amazon, eBay, and Craigslist are probably the only other good options.

There is no logic behind the "gamestop is a rip off" line. If their prices are too high, go buy it from somewhere else cheaper. If no business can survive selling used games cheaper, that should tell you that you are not getting ripped off.

Sure there is. It's really just about convenience. It's easier to go to GameStop rather than order online and wait for delivery.

But price wise, it's most definitely a rip off. They'll offer you $15-20 then turn around and charge $40. In some cases they'll charge $20 for a used game that cost $20 new everywhere else.

I think some Best Buy's are buying used games now.

They need that sort of margin to survive. If they didn't, someone would come in and pay more or sell for less and force them to compete.

yep. i always sell my old games on craigslist or facebook garage sale or ebay and put it for about $30 (in your scenario). saves them $10 and gets me an extra 10. win-win.

To add: There is a reason Joe Blow can sell for less over the internet than a chain store can sell for in their brick and mortar store.

This sounds interesting. I think you should open up your own game selling business. I bet once you have the overhead of a lease, staff, and advertising etc, you'll be able to keep this up! Put those evil Gamestoppers out of business!

I always sell my stuff for NO RESERVE on Ebay. It ALWAYS ends up selling for more than I was expecting. Not selling your stuff on Ebay is a bad move.

Also, you can't blame Gamestop for trying to stay in business.

    MildReTIDEation

  • I don't blame them for doing it because it obviously works. But do they really need to double their money on every trade in? They offered me $27 for a wireless adapter that they sell for $60. Hence why I said its a ripoff.

I still shop there as well haha. Tho I don't really trade in things anymore.

    ButchCassidy

  • Maybe ripoff isn't the right word. It's more like a convenience fee for not having to do any work yourself haha. I just think some of their prices are ridiculous.

Yeah, I bet they do need to double their money on your trade in. It's not like they are making 100% profit each year. Running a business is expensive (lease, advertising, wages, insurance, taxes, etc...).

By the way, I am not arguing. I just don't think some people understand what it really takes to have a successful business.

If you think 100% markup is high, I hope you never find out what some of the things you buy new cost a store.....
