Maybe the kid in the wheelchair should have to run the mile in school with his legs? Is that an excuse that he can't use his legs because of a disease? IT'S THE SAME THING WITH THE BRAIN. Treat the organ that isn't functioning. His thinking won't change because he's in prison.

    Here's the issue. He isn't thinking normally. It's not his fault that chemicals in his brain flow differently than yours. Normal people don't wake up and decide to plot murders. Treat the disease, not the symptom. If you don't have it in your heart to see past the disease and see that maybe there's a boy who needs medical treatment, you need to change the way you're thinking.

    Chemicals in his brain flow differently? You want phantom diseases treated with a phantom cure.

    Not had first hand experience with mental illness through friends or family members have you?

  • Guys while i disagree with some of what wolfie is saying, the chemical thing isn't off base. My friends mom had something up with her thyroids and is a completely different person since that happened..... thyroid effects hormones which controls emotions and such..... also autopsies have shown that many people who have these mass murders planned (don't think the conn shootings were that planned) have brain tumors which can completely fvk with the way you think..... that being said, it isn't an excuse and they should get treated no differently, but, i do feel bad for people that have these thoughts... but if you act on those thoughts its still your own damn fault and nobody else

    The Thyroid thing is very real, and simple to test, and treat with the correct dosage of synthroid. It is a simple test and treatment.

    The chemical imbalance so often spoke of is not that way. People assume there is a test that tells you what chemicals in the brain are out of whack, and what dosage of what medicine is necessary. That simply is not true. Typically it is a Dr's best guess based on symptoms and observations, and trial and error with medicine. Many of which will make the person worse than they were before.

    Person is depressed, doesn't want to do anything, says it is the rest of the world that is screwed, what do you do? Get them Help? Explain how that works when the person says I'm fine, I don't need to go a damn Dr. Just leave me alone. What do you do at that point?

    If you ever deal with that kind of situation, everyone you talk to will have the solution, "Get them some help." No one will ever be able to explain how you do that.
