Obama isn't a conservative either, but neither is he a utopian, which is what I'm gathering from Jill.

I got a high score on Obama too. My political ideologies come from my European background, so I've seen how it works over there. My Spanish grandmother is about as conservative as you can get in Spain. She took a test like this and was a strong left wing on the US political scale.

Not even close. It's more like me saying I'm a moderate libertarian. Libertarianism is about personal freedom. There are different theories as how to maximize personal freedom.

Not when it comes to economic regulation. Sounds like you're socially liberal but not as statist as the major parties.

The only thing I'm skeptical about is the employment platform. The local employment office seems an interesting solution, but doesn't seem feasible in the current political climate.

Everything else seems reasonable: campaign finance reform, renewable energy investment, progressive tax reform, investment in public education etc.

I got Jill Stein with 89%, Obama with 78%, and Gary Johnson with 76%. Seems pretty accurate to me. I consider myself to be somewhat of a libertarian

I'll help you out, you're not a libertarian.

Correct, and stealing other people's money isn't one of them.

If I was a billionaire, I'd love to start an island for libertarians as test experiment to see how it would work.

Ever been to the unemployment office?

Words have meanings, man. This isn't about name calling, I'm fine with whatever ideology you have, but you simply can't claim you're in favor of income redistribution and then say you're a libertarian. Libertarians are zero-sum gamers who don't see many shades of gray.

There are a lot of different types of libertarians.

No there's not. If you want to use it as a relative adjective it's one thing, used as a noun it has a precise definition.

Oh, my bad bro. So an liberal leaning ACLU member can call themselves a "civil libertarian", and feel right at home with the Ron Paul crowd. Sorry, no. Everything on that list besides that one more or less overlaps, and besides, we're talking about Capital-L Libertarianism here. I already addressed the fact it can have different meanings as a small-l adjective.

Furthermore, the topic at hand is a guy who said he's more or less a Libertarian except he believes in government run health care. Find a way to make that jive with accepted concepts of Libertarianism in the context of what that word means in American politics and get back to me.

I can tell you like to assume things. I never once said I support government run health care. I have disagreements with the Libertarian Party on health care but that doesn't mean I support government run health care. I do support certain regulations and that's where I really differ from most libertarians. That doesn't mean I'm not a libertarian. I know liberals that are pro-life. Just because they differ from most liberals on one or two stances doesn't mean they aren't a liberal.

First off, you assume because the Libertarian party capitalizes the L, it supercedes all other uses and it more important?

Libertarianism, like almost all other political affiliations/personal beliefs etc., aren't set in stone and can be found along a spectrum etc.

You can think they are, but that doesn't make it so.

  • If you believe in the US Constitution and the founding principles of this country, you will land on libertarian. When polled on the issues alone, the majority of the public is libertarian. This 2-party system, which was never intended, forces the majority of us to make some serious compromises with our vote.

    97% Ron Paul - Shocker... I kid
    94% Gary Johnson
    65% Mitt Romney
    7% Obama

With this in mind, I will vote for Romney. I was burned by voting for Perot in '92 and vowed I will not do that again. I will support Libertarian candidates at the local level. We have to build from the ground up to really have a chance to get a Libertarian influence. Over time, we can get some in state and federal positions.

Voting for GJ right now is the same as not voting. I really have no idea how someone can score high with Obama and GJ. Both are socially liberal, but they are polar opposites on the economy and social issues that deal with $$$.
