Position "U"

  • The real question is, who is ......
    Hot Chick U?

    Outstanding

  • I think a lot of these are fluid and up for debate. I think the easiest ones to pick are LSU for DL U and PSU for LB U. LSU has been pumping out DL lately with Brockers, Dorsey, Jackson, Francois, Nevis, and Spears. These guys all have shown potential and can be good in the league...

PSU for LB imo (and despite being a homer, i think it's an obvious choice) is LBU. Bowman, Lee, Connor, and Poz on top of 3 other young guys in backup roles who are fighting to start. And that's without mentioning OLB's in a 3-4 like Wake, Hali, and Maybin. A lot of depth and probowlers there with 3, hopefully 4 soon with Lee, All-pros. So while I respect what Bama's put out there recently with Ryans (Probowler), Johnson (Solid), Hightower (Could be real good), Upshaw (Same as hightower), and McClain (needs to stop doing stupid things), they're not quite there with PSU, especially when you add in history.

USC, Michigan, and Wisconsin are the only schools I can think of. And I think that Wisconsin is more of a recent phenomenon, not all time. So it's down to USC and Michigan for OL U.

All time, it might be hands down with players like Ron Mix, Ron Yary, Marvin Powell, Anthony Munoz, Bruce Matthews, Tony Boselli etc..but recently SC's OL production hasn't been too shabby either...Ryan Kalil, Sam Baker, Winston Justice, Charles Brown, Tyron Smith, Matt Kalil etc...

Why is USC QB U? Maybe in the past 5 years, but their overall quarterback tradition isn't that impressive.

QBs that started an NFL game are in bold.

Here's the Trojan Quarterbacks of the last 20 years: Matt Barkley Mitch Mustain Aaron Corp Mark SanchezJohn David Booty Matt LeinartCarson PalmerMike Van Raaphorst John Fox Brad Otton Kyle Wachholtz Rob JohnsonReggie Perry

As a comparison, here's Michigan's starting QBs of the past 20 years: Denard Robinson Tate Forcier Steven Threet Chad HenneJohn NavarreDrew HensonTom BradyBrian GrieseScott Dreisbach Todd CollinsElvis Grbac

In fairness, this list doesn't count Cassel, who is better than any of the active QBs (save Brady, obv) on this list, or Barkley, who is the Heisman favorite and likely to be the #1 pick next year. It also doesn't take into account that Leinart and Palmer won Heismans, which seems like it should count for something itt.

Also, Michigan isn't the correct answer for "WR U," but this seems like a good thread in which to remind everyone that Braylon Edwards, Jason Avant, and Steve Breaston were once all on the same college team.

by more recent do you mean the last 20 years? I will give you that. prior to that is too hard for me to tell, but the only ones of merit I can think of are HOF'r Mike Webster Pit, Pro Bowler Paul Gruber TB, and maybe a Joe Panos or Cory Raymer.

We have had a lot of injury flops in the first round. We also have guys that everyone forgets like a Mark Tauscher for GB. Our more recent success is guys who are starting from day 1.

last years rookie were the pinnacle of our success with two starters and one of our backups starting in Dallas. 3 rookie starters in the same class is unreal.

  • All of the player U discussions basically begin and end with usc and miami. Miami was only good for a couple decades and may never return, but they put out some amazing players in a short period.

    ND is media U
    Bama is championship U

Auburn fans, please list your RBs because you guys have had some good ones since the late 1970s-present. William Andrews, Joe Cribbs, James Brooks, Lionel "Little Train" James, Bo Jackson, Brent Fullwood, Stephen Davis, Rudy Johnson, Carnell "Cadillac" Williams, Ronnie Brown.

Bama fans, list our elite LBers as I think we've surpassed Penn St as we've probably had ~10-12 All-Amercans/1st Rounders/Pro Bowlers including the likes of EJ Junior, Cornelius Bennett, Derrick Thomas, Keith McCants, Dwayne Rudd, Demeco Ryans, Rolando McClain, Courtney Upshaw, Dont'a Hightower.

Add to those James Bostic, Kenny Irons,Heath Evans, Ben Tate, Mike Dyer (while he lasted)

Uh, who besides Palmer on that list has been any good in the NFL? Leinart, Sanchez? No thanks.

UM gets the nod at QB.. every QB that started there for about 17 years played in the pros.

USC definitely at RB with Allen, Murderer, Bush, Bell, Davis, White..

All time, I think SC might have a claim to be OL U. They've produced a shit load of All American/All Pro OL over the years.

Yup...two years in a row an offensive lineman taken in the top 10, and look how many are playing in the league..

Four of our Pro Football Hall of Famers are offensive linemen; Ron Mix, Ron Yary and arguably the two greatest offensive linemen of all time, Anthony Munoz and Bruce Matthews come out of USC.

QB U: USC RB U: USC WR U: Not sure TE U: Miami OL U: Michigan? (Not sure, so I went homer) DL U: Not sure LB U: Penn State DB U: Texas

I don't see how these people are saying USC is RB U. Not to be a Homer at all but even if I was an Auburn fan I would have to say there is no other RB U right now other than Bama.
