Phil not playing well is inconsequential. He is always in it at Augusta. He also played pretty well last week, if he rolls the ball well on the greens he will be near impossible to beat this week.

Tiger is also always in it at Augusta and is the most confident he has been since the accident, and if Bay Hill is any indication he is striking the ball as well as he has in a long time. Tiger was terrible last year and finished top 5, if he isn't in one of the final two or three pairings heading into Sunday I'll be shocked.

Rory is Rory, he's playing like one of the best in the world and will be in it. You can say he has nightmares about Augusta (I hope so I hate him) but he doesn't seem like that type of player. Those nightmares probably went out the window when he crushed everyone at the US Open.

Everyone is always hesitant to pick a favorite like these guys, but one of them will be wearing a Green Jacket IMO. Of course this statement could look dumb as hell come Sunday night, but I doubt it.

Rory and Tiger are playing great golf. Phil always plays great here. If those guys are on, no one else can hang with them.

You always seem to get so upset when people dog other players on tour. Face facts, they are miles below Tiger and Rory; Phil too when he is on. And the competition isn't tougher than it was a few years ago. Name a player who was better than Vijay in his prime, or Phil in his prime that is playing right now?

    Do I seem upset?

You think that nobody else even has a chance is beyond ridiculous.

Outside of Phil or Tiger in the last 10 years it has mostly been someone coming from out of nowhere. 6 out of the last 10 Masters winners are far from what I would call a favorite.

Why? Because nobody besides those 3 have ever won it?

Phil is not playing great right now. Rory probably still has nightmares about last year and who knows what to expect out of Tiger. Sure he is certainly on his way back but he is a long way away from the guy that was a machine back in the 2,000's.

Phil has 8 events ... 7 cuts, 5 top 25 finishes , 3 top 10's and 1 win. He is doing just fine IMO.

I'm still trying to understand your Rory hate. If you just hate non-American athletes in general, fine. But you say he's talked mad schitt about Tiger.....when? Before the Ryder Cup when he said he would love to face him in singles? Is that talking schitt? Sounds to me like something Tiger himself would say, yet you suck him off repeatedly.

And BTW, when you WIN a US Open you are performing under pressure. You don't get to #1 in the world w/out being able to play under the gun.

    You're probably a 45 handicap.

I will be rooting for Phil like I always am. He is certainly playing well and if he gets it going at Augusta he will be tough to beat. He just needs to get the flat stick going.

Best bet: Tiger My gut: Jason Day

I like both of these. Jason Day was on fire for a while, but he still needs a lot of experience to win the Masters. If I had to guess another guy to be in the hunt I would go with Bubba. If he can get his putter going (not likely) then he will be in the running.

I'm not American, so him being non-American doesn't bother me in the least. He is just a cocky mother f'r and claims he isn't intimidated by Tiger when he hasn't come close to proving that in a Major.

My handicap is crap, not sure why that matters as to my thoughts on golf, or golfers though. I play a lot of golf, watch a lot of golf, I know a lot about golf end of story.

Jason Day played the majors so well last year, and he seems pretty unflappable at the big moments. He hasn't played great lately, but I've seen enough to make me feel okay about the pick.

I'm thinking experience is becoming overrated. In the last five years, Zach Johnson (31 at the time), Trevor Immelman (29 at the time), and Charl Schwartzel (26 at the time), have won it. I guess it's better to have it than not, but with the iron game and nerves I've seen from Day, I could see him making a run.

You do seem upset yes. Whenever I mention Tiger being the best or whatever you go into defensive mode about crappy golfers who haven't won chit.

I never said no one had a chance, I just said I would be shocked if someone other then the 3 I mentioned won. Shocked does not equal not having a chance in case you didn't realize. Augusta comes at a time when far and away the best two golfers in the world are playing very good golf. And Phil always plays well here.

Phil and Tiger's results at Augusta speak for themselves. 4 out of 10 titles in a major is what I would call heavy favorites. Especially when Tiger was playing shorthanded in 2 of those. Now Rory is in the mix.

Like I said, I would be shocked if someone else other then those 3 guys won. Could happen easily, I would just be shocked.

Love Jason Day. Followed him for a long time at the Tour Championship last year. Cool guy. Lots of crowd interaction. He was playing with Adam Scott that day so they were having a good time. I think he will play well this week.

Of the international players, I wouldn't mind Day winning it at all. I agree with all the sentiments said about him from several people.

It's too bad the US Open isn't this week for Hunter Mahan. He's always been spot on off the tee & a great putter, but now that he's put in the time on his chipping game his confidence level is at an all time high right now. I think he'll do well at Augusta, but barring a McIlroy final round type incident from last year to throw off his psyche, he's a *serious* contender for the rest of this year, and especially at The Olympic Club come June.

  • I think Luke will put on a good showing, as proof of his #1 ranking.

I believe Kaymer will be in it, along with Westwood.

Tiger needs to continue hitting the greens, his putting is coming back to form.

But, with all that said, Im going with Stricker in a playoff over Scott.

I havent even checked to see if all these guys will make it there, so this is strickly a guess off the top of my head.

Why should he be intimidated by Tiger? He's the best player in the world right now. What is he supposed to say, "Yes, Tiger scares the shit out of me and I hope he misses the cut so I don't have to worry about him"?

I find the kid to be confident but not overly cocky at all. I've seen MANY players not the caliber of McIlroy be much, much more arrogant. He's good for the game IMO.

Having said all that, I hope Mickelson wins with he, Tiger, and Rory in the final two pairings somewhere on Sunday.

He just shouldn't say anything about Tiger. Tiger has won 14 majors, and 72 tournaments, Rory hasn't. So he shouldn't try and say anything.

If LBJ were to say something about Kobe along those lines he would be hung.

Also Rory is the best player in the world? News to me, he isn't #1 in the world, and he isn't better than Tiger. So in what measure is he the best in the world?

Luke Donald is not number one anymore. McIlroy passed him a few weeks ago.

I could see Kaymer doing really well and Westwood.

Not sure about the Stricker pick. Does he normally do well at Augusta? I don't really remember him being in the top 5 much.

It's hard to imagine someone liking Tiger would hate another athlete because he is "cocky". Tiger invented cocky. Every great player that dominates has that swag. Rory is the next big thing on the tour. He will dominate the tour in the coming years.

As for who wins this weekend...I would take the field over the big 3(Rory, Tiger, Phil). That's just the nature of the beast. Tiger hasn't won since 2005. Phil has won it twice since then. Rory has never won it. No doubt that all 3 will be among the leaders coming into Sunday and one may end up winning it but the past says smart money is on the field. Someone always seems to come out of nowhere to win these things.

If I'm choosing from among the big 3, I say Rory is the right bet. His last 11 events, he has finished worse then 6th just twice. He has 2 events under his belt this year and has a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finish in those 3 events. He is playing better and more consistent than anyone in the game right now. He dominated Augusta National for 3 rounds last year. I could see him putting up some very low numbers. He has the Tiger like ability to get on a roll and run away from the pack. Phil isn't quite as sharp right now and Tiger is erratic and injury prone.

Tiger always makes things interesting and I'm looking forward to see how this weekend plays out. I'll never forget being at Augusta Nation for the final round in 2006 when Lefty won. That place is absolutely incredible. It's a shame it has to be hidden from the craphole that is downtown Augusta.
