The one listing I think folks will respond to is UGA. Their roster is incredible and they have "plus" players at key positions. I simply see them winning the East and giving LSU/Bama a real game in the SECCG.

My wild card would be Texas. They had some real growing pains last year but they return two Elite coordinators and a ton of talent. Their running backs MAY be America's best, OL returns a good bit and adds an elite Juco, defense should be exceedingly salty with a ton of young DBs returning. They also don't have a B12CG but if they went 12-0 would never be kept out.

  • If it's based on where they will end up, I'm okay with UGA at 5. That schedule is easy.

I think by you quoting my post I understand the main intent of your own post but a real analyst can't really, in good conscience, put Clemson and VT over FSU.

USC at 7 is pure folly.

Personally, I would have USC in the top 3. I haven't decided in what order, but I would have Bama and LSU with them as well.

Having said that, I can see some having USC a little lower, due to depth concerns at RB and on defense. One injury at the RB position will start to make them more and more one dementional.

If we are assuming they stay healthy at all the key positions, yes I would have them in the top 3, but I can't blame someone for dropping them down a little bit either.

VT has owned the ACC for the past decade. IMO they have the best QB in the league and a very good defense.

Clemson is loaded with talent and won the ACC last year. People are underestimating them because of the Orange Bowl debacle, but they beat VT twice last year and played far more consistently than FSU.

FSU has done nothing for as long as I can remember and was ranked something like #5 coming into the 2011 season. You were destroyed by an Oklahoma team that came in third or fourth in the B12 and you ended up third or fourth or fifth in your own league. Why should anyone put FSU ahead of VT or Clemson?

USC has a great offense but a mediocre defense. Every top 5 USC team I can think of won with defense. USC has a relatively easy schedule this year and maybe that's where the high preseason rankings are coming from, but Oregon will win the P12 (again) this year, not USC. Who would you rather face in a BCSCG, USC or Oregon? I rest my case.

I am not disagreeing with you and think Oregon could easily beat USC and win the PAC12, but I am pretty certain that I would rather play Oregon in the BCSCG.

    Here are my reason:

We can stop Oregon's offense and I doubt they can line up on defense and stop us.

Oh, and I completely agree with you about Va Tech and Clemson. Not saying this isn't the year FSU gets is going again, but I would like to see something pointing in that direction first.

Ugh, whatever. Clemson has less talent at skill positions than FSU. Sammy Watkins is a special talent but FSU has far more. And FSU >>>>> Clemson in the trenches. Yeah, our OL included. But whatever, it's an opinion thread.

Posting that the reason VT should ranked higher is past decade's success pisses me off but that's my problem. They lost 9 starters on offense.

Your quote about "FSU has done nothing for as long as I can remember" lets me know a lot. You also said we were destroyed when we were in it till the end after losing our starting QB. SO yeah, you don't know shit.

USC does not have a mediocre defense but a Trojan can fight that out with you. I've established you don't know what you're talking about.

That might be a matchup problem for you - Alabama's secondary vs. Barkley - but Oregon puts up points on everyone they play. They lost to USC on a missed short FG last year, but still had a better record in the P12. Oregon is better than USC on both sides of the ball.

Oklahoma beat you 23-13 and it wasn't even one of Oklahoma's better teams. And you were playing at home. You also lost to Virginia at home. Yes, Virginia. Just stop.

If you are wanting to do some kind of "Aggregate last five years top 25" then drop Michigan way out as well. If you want to discuss 2012 then get back with me.

Correction. Oregon puts up points and yards against bad defenses, which they play a lot of.

I also think USC's offense is better than Oregon's, assuming injuries don't take their toll. When you take away Oregon's running game, they can't hurt you. USC can hurt in many ways.

A matchup with Oregon wouldn't scare me in the least.

2 things (you should have noticed) about the FSU-OU game:
    1. FSU lost its starting QB (and was missing other key starters on O)
    2. In week 3, OU was a very good team.... until Ryan Broyles went down... then Landry Jones went (something like) 1 TD & 6 INTs in the final 3 games.

Not arguing your points, but Texas Tech did play OU before Broyles went down.

Oregon put up 27 on LSU. That is 4.5x what you put up in your first game last year and almost a TD more than your BCSCG total. And if you are arguing that Oregon's offense only looks good because the P12 defenses are weak, the same applies to USC's offense.

I just think USC has a type of offense that is better suited to go against top defenses.

Oregon also scored most of those points with the game already well out of reach. I just don't worry about teams like that. It doesn't work when you can match speed and play them straight up. Oregon takes advantage of teams having to guess to have a chance to stop them.

That's great, but I bet every fanbase in the country could spin some of their losses the same way. The results are the results. And it might be different if FSU had dominated the ACC the last decade but had one bad year. It hasn't. VT has. When FSU steps up and takes control of the ACC, I will be the first to congratulate them. But until that happens, VT deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Hey, it's a matter of opinion. But go back and look at how many teams put up huge numbers against USC last year. And some were not even good teams. Minnesota put up 17 points on them and Minnesota was absolutely awful (FWIW we shut Minny out). USC won last year with offense not defense. For USC to be a national championship caliber team, they need to put a much better defense on the field. That is all I'm saying. I ranked them #7. That's pretty damn high.
