  • On paper, I think MSU is an 11-1 team. @ Wisky is the only game I think MSU "should" lose. However, things rarely play out that way. Most teams lose at least one game they "should" win. I see MSU going 10-2 with that second loss coming to Ohio State or Nebraska. I'm leaning towards Nebraska due to where the game falls on the schedule and the way they played us last year.

I think Boise St. and Notre Dame are flying waaay under the radar, but both of those squads will be taking first-year QBs into Spartan Stadium under the lights early in the season against a very talented and opportunistic MSU defense, so you have to like our chances to pull out the W in those games.

I have a lot of respect for what Brady Hoke brings to the table, but I don't think Michigan is truly going to be a formidable team until they have a pro-style QB running that offense, and they strengthen those lines. Until Denard proves he can beat MSU, then I think you have to favor the Spartans, even at the Big House. MSU has laid the blueprint for how to stop that offense. If we can muster any offense at all, and I think we will, then that's a game we should win.

  • could easily lose 5, nd, osu, whisky, um and nebraska, but thats unlikely...

i think msu beats nd and nebraska for sure, but loses to um, whisky and osu (altho, these 3 could go either way)...

bottom line is msu loses 3 total and goes 9-3...

best case is 10-2, 9-3 most likely, 8-4 possible and 7-5 rare...

  • Why are so many predicting a loss to Michigan? Based on...what?

The assumption that Denard might be more of a threat as a passer, and that Maxwell will be less formidable than Cousins. Although if I remember correctly Cousins didn't play particularly well last year.

He didn't play that well (though the 40mph winds limited him)

Just showed MSU can win it by running (over 200 rush yards)- not bad for a not so good rushing team in 2011..

I can really see the game going either way. I think based on MSU's success against Denard they're a safe pick right now. However, IF Denard has improved his passing enough that his arm has to be respected then Michigan will have a way better chance of winning than previous years.

We couldn't muster much offense in that game and gave up over 100 yards in penalties............and won by 14. What do you suppose is going to happen if we can generate some O and limit the penalties?

it could go either way...msu has the better d, um has a more explosive o...

motivation is huge in college football and i think um's need to beat msu is greater then msu's want to continue the streak...

plus homefield advantage is big in a game like this, so i see um winning a close one by a last minute field goal, however, a msu win certainely wouldnt suprise anyone either...

If that happens then I would assume MSU will have played a great game. What do you think will happen if Michigan's defense has improved from last year and Denard is a better passer this year?

If Denard "improves" as a passer, it will be going from terrible to just bad. I don't see that guy picking apart our defense anytime soon.

Maybe UM looks "explosive" to an OSU fan. Not to us.

Then why respond to me in the first place if you're unwilling to entertain the idea that Michigan could be a better team this year?

well, jek, you asked the question on why many here picked um...

ya see, this isnt the rcmb where every tool thinks msu is going 12-0 and will destroy everyone, no, fans of nebraska, osu, bama, lsu etc...can actually look at the matchup rationally without green and white glasses....

unfortunately, for you and other msu fans, the consensus is um/msu are evenly matched and can go either way...

Think you are right on.. it's an even matchup.. UM's got the game at home, but MSU's had their # recently

Should be a close game either way.. obviously MSU fans are going to favor MSU, UM fans favor UM... but both have a good shot to win, will come down to who makes the plays

    I clearly said 10-2, not 12-0.

I don't think claiming we'll beat a team we've killed 4 years in a row, mostly with our defense, and we return 9 of 11 starters on that D, is all that myopic at all. Facts and logic are on my side. Whereas you have nothing more than the same old tired talking points.

Michigan!!!!! Denard!!!!! Home field!!! Blah blah blah.

well when non homers see the game as pretty even, and vegas sees it as pretty even, yeah, homefield is pretty huge...

you have a great d, but ur qb is suspect at best, ur receivers are unproven as well...

um has a great running qb (albeit a pretty bad passer) a good o line anchored by lewan but their d line is average at best...

so, neither team will throw well and both will run effectively (msu right at um and denard on broken plays)...

that looks pretty even to me and thats why i give the homefield team the edge...

btw, past performances have nothing to do with what happens this yr...too much attrition in college football

To a degree.. OK.. but it's hard to discount Denard's struggles vs MSU in his previous 2 starts

Vegas doesn't see it as even. UM is a 5 1/2 to 6 point favorite.

msu has definetly had denards number, thats for sure, and one of the reasons i feel um might win is because of that losing streak...motivation his huge in college and this is his last chance to beat msu...

but, i still wouldnt be suprised if msu was to win either (really looking forward to watching this game)

After taking in home field (somewhere around 4 pts for UM), this game is very nearly even and the books see it that way
