USC and Miami are both great than Bama currently. As far as how these guys perform at the highest level (NFL). Bama is on their way to that status, but not there yet.

What does the NFL have to do with college?

Alabama's collegiate pedigree at LB is better than PSU.

NFL is where the highest level of football is played. So much of College pedigree is opinion based. It is easier to evaluate how good these guys were when going up against the best. In college if you have 2 elite DT's in front of you, you can look like a monster MLB. That same player could get cut in training camp, when not having that big advantage.

USC: Clay Mathews, Brian Cushing, Rey Mauluga, Kaluka Maiava, Keith Rivers, Recently retired Willie McGinest, and the late Junior Seau. Just drafted in the 1st round Nick Perry.

Miami: Ray Lewis, DJ Williams, Jonathan Vilma, Colin McCarthey. Just drafted in the 3rd round Sean Spence

Bama is more up and coming, and I never really mentioned FSU though of course they have had some great one's.

Ok PSU's list probably beats USC, Bama and Miami. Hali, Wake and Bowman is probably the best trio.

But like I said, if you have superior talent around you, it can make you look better than you are, especially at linebacker. Scheme has a lot to do with it as well. There are simply a ton of variables. If you are an 1st team AA, but you go to the NFL and are not good enough to hack it, and some kid who was 3rd team AA goes on to make the Pro Bowl, then he was the better linebacker all along, at least in my mind.

You serious? Clay and Cush were both Pro-Bowler as rookies and came in #1 and #2 in NFL Defensive rookie of the year voting. Clay been a Pro-Bowler every year he has been in the league.

None of those guys are those elite impact LInebackers though. No Manti Teo's or Vontaze Burfit types. Most are regional kids, it is not like Penn St is a destination for a star backer out of CA, Tx, or Florida. Even the regional star this year, Jaylon Smith is not considering Penn St.

Under Paterno, PSU never recruited nationally. They have always looked at PA, NY, NJ, OH, VA and MD for 98% of their players. And I'm sorry if you don't think that a guy like G. Hodges isn't an impact player. You clearly haven't been paying attention. The guy is a stud.

LBU is Bama. Historically and presently. PSU coined it without the talent to back it up.

PSU has had more than enough talent at LBU. You realize we've had 3 LB's that have won the Chuck Bednarik award right?

Besides Clay and Cush though USC has no one else. Hali and Wake are both Pro Bowlers and Bowman was All-Pro an arguably a top 5 LB last year.

You're such a little queen. Let's scrap any kind of recognition in college football. No awards, no bowls, no championships.

Let's just play and have fun.

DT was better than all of them, but he was a freak. Besides him you have no one that matches Lavar Arrington, Posuluzsny (he won the award twice) or Connor.

Don't be such a fag. I am making some very legit points, while you are just being all rah rah for bama. Why would you want to disregard how players perform against the best? I am not disregarding collegiate success, only using both college and the NFL to figure out who is best. Anyway if you wanted college only USC stacks up with anyone.

Keith Rivers went to a Pro-Bowl, Maulauga and Maiava are both starters (or were, not sure right now).

  • I'd like to add OL at Michigan. Somewhat of a homer pick, but even in Michigan's down years we've been cranking out talent - 2 recent Rimington winners in Baas and Molk, tackles like Backus, Long, and now Lewan, and guards like Steve Hutchinson. Add that to the current absurdly good haul of OL recruits that Hoke's brought in and you've got a perfect setup to return Michigan to a premier OL and QB destination.

What? Maualuga, Maiava, and Rivers are all starters. Plus, Wake went undrafted and plays DE.

Bowman might've been an all-pro, but Matthews was second in defensive POY and led the Packers to a super bowl.

I feel Hoke will have Michigan back to being Michigan in no time. I told Michigan fans that he would be a home-run hire before they landed him. He would have turned San Diego St into the next BCS buster had he stayed there.

Rivers never made a Pro Bowl. Rivers just got traded to the Giants for a 5th round pick so obviously he isn't thought that highly of. PSU clearly has the better group, its not even that close really.

Alonzo, I'm a huge Packer fan I know how good Matthews is, but besides him and Cush you have no impact players really. PSU has 3 clear impact players at LB (Wake is OLB in the 3-4) and Pos and Lee both are 100 tackle a year guys.

You use Pro Bowl to judge COLLEGE football?

GTFO. Pro Bowl is a joke. Most of the elite players don't give a damn about it.

I am not talking about the actual game, I am talking about being recognized as a pro-bowler, and yes this is something players care a lot about.

It is, Navarro Bowman didn't even make the Pro Bowl and he was 1st team All-Pro.
