It is, Navarro Bowman didn't even make the Pro Bowl and he was 1st team All-Pro.

    Exactly.

The Pro Bowl is worthless. The small market teams are at a disadvantage.

If I'm not mistaken, is the Pro Bowl not a fan vote?

Not completely sure. They generally get it right for the most part. The real award is All-Pro ie meaning that you are the best in your conference at your position.

  • So All-Pro is how we should judge colleges and their best positions?

    That makes total sense.

Hell, in that case Kentucky basketball isn't shit.

I feel Hoke will have Michigan back to being Michigan in no time. I told Michigan fans that he would be a home-run hire before they landed him. He would have turned San Diego St into the next BCS buster had he stayed there.

I wanted him back when Carr retired, (although I admit I also really wanted Les Miles) but I think suffering through 3 years of RichRod humbled the fanbase in a way that'll allow us to truly appreciate just how good of a coach Hoke actually is. I already love the things he's done with the program, and I look forward to seeing him on the sidelines for the next 20 years.

Is their pro career more important than their college?

Tough to say really. For the great players, a Pro career is going to be longer than a college career, so you have more data to compare. Pro is also more even regarding talent, so a player that excelled in college due to system and talent around him will be exposed in college. Now some players are just really good college players, but their games do not translate to the NFL, but even then I would have to rate those players lower, especially linebackers than those who did well in college and the NFL. If it were an option type of QB that would be a different argument. Though in college you can have a 205-210 lb who dominates, but it simply physically outmanned in the Man's game. That one Auburn linebacker from a few years back comes to mind.

Rivers never made a Pro Bowl. Rivers just got traded to the Giants for a 5th round pick so obviously he isn't thought that highly of. PSU clearly has the better group, its not even that close really.

Alonzo, I'm a huge Packer fan I know how good Matthews is, but besides him and Cush you have no impact players really. PSU has 3 clear impact players at LB (Wake is OLB in the 3-4) and Pos and Lee both are 100 tackle a year guys.

Lofa Tatupu is a 3 time pro-bowler who didn't play last season, but just signed with the Falcons. 100 tackle a year guy. Rey and Rivers are just short of 100 tackles.

I'm a 49ers fan so I appreciate Bowman, but he was outclassed in that '09 Rose Bowl game, as was that whole LB unit. If anyone should know how good that USC LB corps was its PSU.

  • You will never have one school dominate every year at a position. It will fluctuate over time. That is why when you are talking about LB U (or QB U, RB U, ect), you need to look at the total history of the program. PSU is clearly LB U. They have a top 5-10 unit right now, they have great players in the NFL, and they have a great history with awards to back that up.

If you ask the top LB recruits in High school, what schools are most attractive to you as a linebacker, Penn St would not be in the top-5.

I'll take Alabama's past and present at LB. It's the one position we're top 10 all-time in. Our tradition at LB is second to none.

USC was just a much better team in 09, but one game shouldnt determine anything.

I'll take the PSU linebacking core of Hali, Wake, Pos, Bowman, and Connor over the USC core of Cush, Matthews, Rey, Rivers and Tatupu. You'll obviously disagree because you are a USC fan.

USC had 61 yards on 35 attempts in that game. The issue for PSU was the secondary, not the LBs.

What some players did in the 60's has no bearing on what happens now. Just sayin.

I , growing up in Alabama , and around Alabama football.. Have to agree with this. As long as Saban is there and before he is done.. UA will cement it's position in the top 2 of LB U's of all time.
