A majority of Puerto Ricans voted to change their relationship with the US, then they also voted in favor of statehood.

But, Congress has to approve them as a state before they can become a state.

It is unlikely they will be granted statehood. The Democrats would possibly support it because it would give them 2 more Senators and 5 congressmen. For that same reason the GOP would likely oppose it.

There really is no advantage to admitting them-extremely high crime rate, very poor with high unemployment, English is a second language, taxes taken in would be outweighed by benefits paid to them etc.

It is doubtful anything will happen, most likely Congress won't even discuss it.

They are already part of our military along with Guam, so why not make them both the 51st and 52nd state

Ah, I forgot about that clause. My dad went to TAMU and he knows his Texas stuff. That would be interesting if Texas started seriously talking about it.

Wow have some of you been outside the south, because the military is not mostly southerns. Their are actually people from other parts that are in the military too. If it was up to some of the southerns we would have another civil war.

If it was up to me we would have another one, right now. And yes the South has the greatest percentage of people in the military than any other region and the majority of the military is in fact from red states.
