QB Jeremy Johnson Says He's Gone if AU Fires Chizik

  • Weedline said...

I should probably put a disclaimer on this topic so I don't have to deal with the Blue Board children later. I'm not saying we are going to sign him. In fact, I bet we don't. What I am saying is, we should go after him hard. To me, Johnson has always been the type of player that will either be amazing or never play a down. I don't think there is an in between with him. But I would rather take a guy like that than a QB like Parker that I think will never crack to two deep.

Seems our coaches disagree with you. How long are you going to keep saying it? I mean seriously, the kid did not want to, or couldnt work out for us and we typically wont take a commitment from a kid who doesnt work out for us unless its a top guy, which he isnt. Besides that , there really doesnt seem to be any interest on either side. Maybe he isnt coachable, maybe his work ethic isnt good, maybe he wouldnt understand our type of offense, maybe he doesnt like Tuscaloosa, who knows. But the facts are it isnt going to happen. Bone even answered this for you the last time you brought it up.

We appreciate your opinion, understand your position but let it go man, seriously. Seems we have a pretty decent track record.

Every QB should take a note from the Peyton Manning playbook. Perfect your craft for 4 years, graduate early and concentrate on nothing but football their Senior Year. I think AJ is staying and I think those saying he's gone on Rivals are retarded.

    Agreed.

    no

-AJ is not a 1st rnd QB (among this years crop) -he's not leaving early -he will be the South's starter in the Sr Bowl & the Tide's starter in 13' -Bama will somehow miraculously survive AJ's departure from the Capstone

Milliner on the other hand could be the 1st CB off the board....he's gone. coffee

I am not saying he is leaving, but this is a pretty weak QB class already. There are only a few guys that would be ahead of AJ, especially if he keeps trending as he has been lately.

Once you get past Barkley and Geno, there is a huge drop off.....and I am not sold on Geno anymore after the last couple of games.

The rest of the pack seems to be EJ Manuel, Aaron Murray, Tyler Wilson, and Tyler Bray.

No guarantee that Tyler Bray comes out, but if he is projected in the top 2 rounds, I think he gets out of Tennessee before his stock drops any further.

I would say that Barkley and Geno are the only 2 sure first rounders, but you know there will end up being 4, maybe 5. I would think that Murray and Wilson have a chance to end up in the first round, but if there is a 5th that goes, who do you take? Bray, EJ, or AJ? Bray has become one of the most overrated QBs in college football, IMO, only one-upped by Logan Thomas. In SEC play, Bray has been pathetic.

Andrew has never answered a recruiting question for me ever. That goes back to 02'. I like the guy, but he's always three steps behind everyone else. I know our staff is not high on Johnson. We didn't recruit the guy or offer him. I have been following his recruitment since he was a freshman in high school. Nobody needs to tell me about him. When you guys were talking about Phillip Sims committing to Bama and getting to know who he was, I was talking about Jeremy Johnson being the next great QB in the state of Alabama. But thanks for letting me know how hard we recruited him.

It's a mistake not recruiting him. A mistake that can be remedied very easily. That's an opinion. Here's a fact: Our staff has done a terrible job so far evaluating QB's. The only one that has worked out is AJ and everyone in the South offered him. We have a QB committed that can't even start for his high school team. Think about that for a second and tell me you have faith in him ever seeing the field at Bama. Then tell em you would rather have a guy like that committed over a guy like Johnson. Do that with a straight face and I'd be impressed. Scared, but impressed

Not certain I'm very intrigued by Johnson. He's got got size but he plays in a terrible region. He's a project at best and with Bateman is be surprised if he ever played a snap at Alabama. We'll see. If the coaches want him, I'll take him.

My personal opinion only but I like Johnson more than Bateman. Everyone talks about Johnson being this big project. I have yet to hear what makes him such a project though. The kid has a great body, he's got a clean delivery, he's got a strong arm, he's athletic. He plays in a spread offense but they also put him under center probably 40% of the time. Not sure why he's gotten the "project" label.

IMO his accuracy and release needs lots of work. I'm not sure what he's done this year but he threw 14 picks last year and against any decent competition he was barely above 50% completion. I'm sure some of that has improved this year. Those things, I'm my mind, make him a project along with most recruiting sites ranking him around the 15th- 20th best QB in the country.

Barton, where do you see Jeremy Johnson finishing up in the final rankings? Good to see his 7-on-7 skills translating to his senior year of 6A football in AL. Will probably be Mr. Football and Mr. Basketball in AL this year.

He could be the best, but his stock is taking a hit for this season. Not his fault, but it has happened. He'll have to have a great combine/workout to secure 1st round status, IMO.

After the most recent stats update, he was passing at 2,195 yards, 28 TDs and 4 INTs, completing 72% of his passes for 9-1 Carver.

No idea on his rushing stats, but I would bet he is well over 400 yards rushing and 5-6 TDs.

I don't disagree with you on his accuracy. That's the one thing that is a little inconsistent at times but his delivery and release are fine by me. I just think "project" is a mislabel. Also as someone noted above, his numbers have been outstanding this year and Carver has a real shot at a state title.

As for his ranking, if it was totally up to me, I'd have him as a top 10 QB nationally. Not many QBs in this class with more upside.

Just so I understand you, you're saying Jeremy Johnson isn't a top QB in this class? He'll probably be a consensus top 5 QB on just about every recruiting site by NSD. He very well could end up with 2 consecutive state titles in basketball and a state title in football.

Kid is a freak specimen. If he and Jameis Winston were white, you can bet your ass Alabama would have put the full court press on them.

Thanks, Barton. The kid has rare measurables for a QB and a very high ceiling. You can't coach a potentially 6'6" 230 lbs frame into a kid.

Do you see him getting invites to All-American games?
