Question for ppl who demand joepa statue taken down..

  • ejb5212 said...

Do you demand that we stop celebrating Colombus day? The man was known for torturing and killing the natives of the land he "discovered". (I think the statue should be taken down I'm just curious)

  • I don't remember Columbus holding him self up as better than all the other explorers and doing things "the right way". But we all did with Jopa, so I'll let Columbus have a pass.

Source that he gave his men permission to rape women?

    http://www.commondreams.org/views04/1011-27.htm

"Columbus and his men also used the Taino as sex slaves: it was a common reward for Columbus' men for him to present them with local women to rape. As he began exporting Taino as slaves to other parts of the world, the sex-slave trade became an important part of the business, as Columbus wrote to a friend in 1500: "A hundred castellanoes (a Spanish coin) are as easily obtained for a woman as for a farm, and it is very general and there are plenty of dealers who go about looking for girls; those from nine to ten (years old) are now in demand.""

    http://campuspages.cvcc.vccs.edu/polis/2003/nonfiction/whitney%20dewitt.amlit.htm

"Other atrocities committed by Columbus and his men were reported by Michele de Cuneo, one of the Spaniards with whom he was traveling. One account tells of how they came upon a canoe and Indians and they attacked them. They thought they had killed one of the Indians and threw him into the water. Upon seeing him begin to swim, they caught him and cut his head with an axe. They later sent the rest of the Indians to Spain. He also gives a relatively descriptive account of his rape of an Indian woman; an act committed with Columbus’s blessing (Wilford 178-9). Columbus apparently believed it was his right to pass the captured women out to his men, and they, in turn, believed they did not need to ask for the women’s consent. As awful as it may be, rape was one of the less violent acts they committed against the Indians"

    TL:DR
You win, your dads statue can stay. Enjoy the death penalty.

right, and you defending his statue is basically defending Sandusky, Hitller, Stalin, Satan, Columbus, and Genghis Khan.

in order to get the death penalty you need to have a previous major violation and devidee nicely started a thread today that shows that psu is one of two schools to never have a major ncaa violation...Enjoy the disappointment when we get less than a slap on the wrist
