Quick Update: Jabrill Peppers

  • Just talked to Chris Partridge, the head coach at Paramus (N.J.) Catholic. Home of 2014 five-star CB Jabrill Peppers, the nation's No. 3 ranked player overall.

Peppers will visit Rutgers on June 26 or 27 for a team camp. It will be his only visit of the summer according to Partridge.

"Hes going to concentrate on playing football this year and worry about that next spring and winter," Partridge added.

Peppers will move to strong safety for Paramus Catholic this fall, but Partridge expects him to be still play CB on the next level.

  • Rutgers also recently offered Peppers' classmate, WR Tyrone Washington and 2015 WR Najee Clayton. Partridge thinks both are big-time BCS prospects, with Clayton having a chance to be just as touted as Peppers when his time comes.

  • Only visit of the summer huh? Interesting, seems like he's putting off recruiting somewhat.

Steve, any reason why PSU hasn't been connected to Peppers for a while? They supposedly told Marques Little that he was their top 2014 target in the secondary. Seems a little strange that PSU is almost ignoring a top DB in their own backyard, unless it's because he has no interest.

  • Not surprising that his coach wants one of the best prospects in the country to drag out his recruitment. Will bring a lot of attention to Paramus and his teammates. Kid looks like a stud, but we'll see how him moving to SS changes his projections at CB. It would seem to me to be much harder to project his abilities at CB at the next level if he ends up playing Safety his last two years of HS.

Penn State definitely has Peppers on the radar. Coach Partridge said that every program that visited Paramus Catholic during the spring evaluation period told him Peppers had an offer. The Nittany Lions were one of the schools in, and he's a top target for them in 2014.

There is several prospects at the school, so I think that's irrelevant. I think it's more a case that Peppers transferred from Don Bosco to Paramus and is knee deep in learning the playbook. Coach Partridge said he wants Peppers making the defensive calls this season, so Jabrill is going to be spending a lot of time with his team learning all the nuances.

Jabrill himself has been laid back about recruiting when I've talked to him. He's in no rush to dive in. He's busy with school, his music, sports and getting acclimated to his new surroundings.

shrug Guess things have just been very quiet on that front?

I figured maybe he had no interest after the situation this past fall. Back in October or something he said Michigan and PSU were his two favorites schools, but we haven't heard anything since on our end.

    Thanks, Steve.
