The rich indeed get richer. On the left was our "big" back, last year ... Jalston Fowler, about 6-1, 245ish. That's true freshman Derrick Henry on the right. He was running through high school defenses 4 mos ago. Also ... TJ Yeldon.

I'm sure some jackass will get on here and rave about FSU's corps though.

At least Saban kept his word and let Henry think he's playing RB. Kid probably finished the practice playing LB.

Why would the nation's career high school rushing leader, who ran for over 4,000 yards and 50+ TDs last year move to LB?

Oh, because you just can't have a RB that big?

    He's never played LB. Ever.

    Good observation though, really original.

  • So where are the FSU fans who told me Henry would not play RB at Bama? Because I remember who you are, I just want to see if you have the balls to come out and admit you were wrong.

But anyway, Henry will have to beat out Drake this Spring and he will be number 2 on the depth chart behind Yeldon. This is how I see it:

    Spring-

    RB
    TJ Yeldon 6'2" 216 SO
    Derrick Henry 6'3" 245 FR
    Kenyan Drake 6'1" 210 SO
    Jalston Fowler 6'1" 242 rJR

    HBack
    Jalston Fowler 6'1" 242 rJR
    OJ Howard 6'6" 240 FR
    Harrison Jones 6'4" 244 rJR
    Derrick Henry 6'3" 245 FR

    Fall-

    RB
    TJ Yeldon 6'2" 216 SO
    Derrick Henry 6'3" 245 FR
    Kenyan Grake 6'1" 210 SO
    Tyren Jones 5'9" 215 FR
    Jalston Fowler 6'1" 242 rJR
    Altee Tenpenny 6'0" 215 FR
    Alvin Kamara 5'10" 200 FR

    HBack

    Derrick Henry 6'3" 245 FR

  • Lolz at admitting we were wrong, Henry still sucks and is a little pussy

One who dominated a bunch of tiny white boys in the gayest division in florida, and he is a 250 pounder who refused to kill kids on defense cause he is a pre madonna black man who listens to Iggy Pop in the shower

Also hella lulz at the fact he is still at RB in his first spring and thinking that justifies he will stay there all 4 years

God damn you fail hard Weedline

No, its because he gained all those yards due to playing high schools that are gayer than your fan base

I don't fully agree but partially as his physical dominance and running won't translate to the SEC.. I've yet to see anything from Henry thus far that makes me understand the "gushing" that Bama fans are exuding tight now.

-Being big doesn't make you a great RB
-The RB practice videos of Banma I've seen thus far depict a guy that is not a natural in terms of footwork and agility. Watch the practice video from the 1st practices.
-I'm NOT writing him off as being a RB but Charles Grant (UGA and Saints) was a beast HS RB here in Georgia in the mid-late 1990s. He played DE in college and the NFL. Terrell Suggs was also beast at RB in HS in Arizona. Google their high school stats and video. Brandon Jacobs has been a back-up in college and with the Giants to Ahmad Bradshaw....and cut by the 49ers as he was behind 3 RBs that measure 5'7", 5'8", and 5'9"
-So again.....,being big doesn't mean you will be a good RB.
-Also, if you research the data, big RBs are actually less effective in the NFL in short yardage situations and they aren't very durable on average. Obviously there are some exceptions but its not the norm

In closing, I wish folks would stop evaluating football players because of "how they look". The worse is the gushing over LaMichael Fannng... "He's a freak", "Can't wait until this beast gets on the field....he'll dominate". If he were a beast he'd wouldn't be 2nd-3rd string going into his 3rd year on campus. We're talking football here.....Not the beauty or measureables Olympics.

Kevin Durant is moving up in my favorite All-Time Athletes list. Mama raised him right.

  • I think Henry could be good, just depends

I certainly think Bama has a few backs that are much better and will continue to bring them in down the road

Henry just pisses me off cause a kid that big should never be afraid to play defense and end kids careers with one hit

My post was mostly just lulzin at Weedline for thinking that it was just FSU fans who said Henry is no RB, when it was 90% of florida football fans and around 87% of america in general

Or for him thinking the argument is over, and he is right after 3 days of spring practice

Who cares about the yards? So he would only have rushed for 2,500 yards in 6A? Kid was offered by everyone on the planet, including Florida State. So if Derrick Henry sucks and you guys recruited and offered him, that means ... what?

Dude, you KILL people on here for saying a guy sucks/is a pussy/whatever after they don't get a kid. Then pass it off for trolling, when really it's just hypocritical bullshit.

I'm sure it's Rick Trickett's fault he didn't want to go there though.

You do understand that "most of America" has him as a 5 star RUNNING BACK, right? You know, the guys who do this for a living? Most of the people you are talking about is the ignorant morons who spew the same BS on here year ofter year. That doesn't count.

You guys feel like you need to have some kind sort of press release every time you miss on a big player from Florida. Or every time a player from the state does well outside of your school. Like it's a personal thing or something. 'Well, well, we didn't want him anyway". "He's not that good". "FSU didn't offer". "He wanted to go to FSU, but we took this player that has never done anything instead." See, you and your fanbase try to act elite. You have convinced yourselves that you still are elite, so in your mind, you are. The truth is, you're not. You're not even close. You justify your insecurities of losing players with the excuses above to transcend the actuality of the situation. That situation is, they are not going to FSU or giving FSU the time of day because you are not as good as you think you are. They want to go somewhere they can be successful. In the meantime, you guys act like a bunch of women on the rag every time you miss on a player and thus the reason everyone on every sports message board anywhere hates your fanbase more than Al-Qaeda. I agree.... his size is what most gush over but to most his potential at OLB or maybe DE is very high.... he wants to prove he is a RB but in the end defense or even TE might make him tons of money... Vernon Davis type TE IYAM

I understand what you're saying, and I get the whole argument that the 5-9 to 6-foot guys tend to trend better in the NFL and all that.

Just because he doesn't have Drake's feet - which are amazing, by the way - doesn't mean he won't or can't be a good RB. I watched the videos ... are you saying he doesn't belong? What I see is a raw freshman who is just in the baby stages of being coached in college. Let's see how he looks in August, next March, in two years ...

Franco Harris was 6-2, 230. He played 13 years.

    Eddie George was 6-3, 240. 9 years, 10,000 yards.

Steven Jackson at 6-2 or 6-3 has over 10,000 yards.

Chris "Beanie" Wells. 6-2, over 225.

Those are just a few ...

So my question, BBD ... is if there's exceptions to "the rule," doesn't this kid appear to fit that? I wonder if George's feet looked like Walter Payton's the second he stepped on campus. Probably not.

The bottom line, ALWAYS, is: can he play? These "measurables" go out the window once they get on the field.

  • I agree with Nova to an extent on this one. He's a good back, but the jury is still out on 2 things, whether it translates to the SEC after playing really bad teams or he doesn't get moved by Saban. (who has tended to retract on some statements in the past)

I think his biggest obstacle is how much talent Bama has and will continue to add at RB

I have always had the stance, that him beating out others at RB is gonna be tough him and clearly weedline thinks that is the dumbest stance ever.... I mean how dare I speak well of the other backs on Bama's roster

The fact that 247 ranked Henry 5 stars means he will be a NFL HOF'er, how stupid of me

I don't even know why I think for myself, I should just swing from the nuts of other peoples brains just like weedline.... then when it becomes true I can act like it was myself who was right the entire time roflmao
