Rank the SEC coaches

You could and I definitely think Petrino is one of the top 5 coaches in the SEC. After Spurrier and Saban I think you would have a next tier that would be Miles, Richt, Petrino, Chizik. Peoples opinions would differ on those. I would probably put them in that order.

    1) Spurrier
    2) Saban

    3) Miles
    4) Richt
    5) Petrino
    6) Chizik

I was talking about JoePa. If you think Spurrier is a top 5 coach now based on past success then you gotta put JoePa up as top 5 country wide. Maybe I'm reading into what you're saying or confused. Possibly both.

Gotcha. Yes I mis-read your post. It is my opinion that football doesn't exist outside of the walls of the SEC so I don't have many opinions outside the SEC.

    Dude, what are you smoking?

Saban is #1 and quite frankly, it's not even close.

Spurrier is a good coach, but not #1. End of that nonsense.

  • Spurrier is a good coach? Seriously, good? Wow. Must take a lot to impress you.

Good, great, sure, call it what you want. It doesn't change the fact that he's not above Saban...

  • 1. Saban - Truly believe he could win an SEC Championship at any school in the SEC. Alabama had not been relevant since the mid 90's before he got there.
    2. Petrino - Great offensive mind he has gone 5-7, 8-5, 10-3 and will likely finish 11-2 this year.
    3. Miles - 11 or more wins in 5 of his 7 years and has finished in the top 5 four of the 7.
    4. Chizik - He clearly has Auburn headed in the right direction, AU fans might not like how they got to 4-1, but they got there when few if any people outside the "family" thought they could do it. At the end of this year AU will have gone 8-5, 14-0 and 8-5 (or 9-4), the list of coaches who have started better than that in the SEC is pretty small, although 4 are on this list.
    5. Muschamp
    6. Richt
    7. Dooley
    8. Spurrier
    9. Mullen
    10. Franklin
    11. Nutt
    12. Phillips

This is how I have it. I think Petrino is a great coach but recruiting is a coaching aspect also and I don't think he does that well.

He doesn't do that well because he is in Little Rock, Arkansas, probably easier to recruit to Louisville.

    Good list.
Joe Paterno is a great coach. I wouldnt hire him now and the same for Spurrier. This list is fluid though.

  • I'll just say "watch-out" if James Franklin ever gets a HC job at a place like........HHHHmmmmm.....UGA.

Dude is recruiting well at Vanderbilt and even dropped in during a high school game that I attended this past Friday night in Marietta [Walton vs Lassiter]....Lane Kiffin style......via helicopter.

  • There was a really good article on James Franklin in SI a couple of weeks back. I didn't know much, if anything, about him before but it was a good story.

  • Franklin really is a good coach. He just coaches at Vandy.
