Yes, because his whole college career should be based off of his performance against a very poor Michigan team. That makes sense.

why is it when msu or osu beats u guys it was a very poor r.r team, but when u guys beat the worst team in the last 80 yrs for osu its a great win for the program?

no flame here, but in the rivalry a win is a win....pryor was 4-0 against um (ok 3-0 save last yr)....

if u want to play the "we sucked that/those yrs then isnt denard's win last yr tainted?"

It's because the defense were among the worst in all of college football and the offense was nothing more than run Denard.

The reason we brag is because that OSU team wasn't actually that bad stats wise, they just couldn't score when they needed to.

???? we were almost dead last in the country in total offense...we had a lame duck coach....we had our best defender out with injury...we had our best o lineman, receiver and rb back for only a couple games prior to um...and last but not least, we had a true frosh starting qb...my point is, um beat us fair and square, all teams have to deal injuries, new players/coaches etc...

i only play the "our worst team in 80 yrs" card when warranted (my previous reply to another poster)

we all cant have it both ways, i choose to say we either won or lost no excuses

  • A large part of this could be "what might have been".

With the Julio vs Green debate...had Green signed with Alabama and Julio with UGA, I think their stats would have been reversed and we'd still be debating who the #1 WR in that class was. 1 and 1A, imo.

What do you do with Terrelle Pryor? Had he signed with Michigan instead of OSU, he'd have had better stats, but wouldn't have won quite as much. Do you value the wins or the stats? Even with his abbreviated career, he has to be in the Top 10.

Who is the best OL from the class? Kalil or Barrett Jones?

LaMichael James had the best statistics at RB of anyone. It is interesting how the game has changed. 20 years ago, had he been so close to the Rushing Record, there would have been enormous national pressure for him to stay and break the record. Now, it was hardly a thought outside of Eugene and many didn't realize he had such a legitimate shot.

It's the fact that AJ Green has the prototypical size and speed for an elite WR, has nothing to do with stats.

Normally I wouldn't call the OSU win a great win for the program, but since it hadn't happened in a while, it was good to get it off our backs. And I'm not saying that the wins against RR's teams shouldn't be counted equally, but to say that Pryor should be the #1 re-ranked prospect in 08' because he was 4-0 over a poor team is idiotic.

  • Mizzou landed Michael Egnew (Rivals 2-star, All-American) and Aldon Smith (3-star, 1st rounder), on top of Blaine Gabbert. A nasty year for sure.

It's close, but Green has those long ass arms and can literally catch any ball within a garage's distance away from him. Jones is very good, but also deals with injury issues.

You forgot Nick Perry, 1st round DE and top 50 prospect out of HS. Rated higher than Upshaw in both.

Edit didn't mean to quote you

Originally you said size and speed. Now you are saying something different. Which is it? Objective or subjective.

My list was by no means comprehensive.
I missed him. I don't get to watch as many west coast games, so I am sure there are many others who would make the top 50.

I think Green has displayed better "ball skills", but Jones has displayed better toughness and was a "winner" at the college level. Green seems more "fluid" while Jones might be considered "stiff". Until his last year at Alabama, Jones' hands were less sure than Green's, but Jones became more "acrobatic" in his last season with his athleticism on display more and more and his hands became a strength.

Even now, in looking back at what was, it is incredibly difficult to separate the two. I don't think it is even possible to say one is better than the other. It comes down to preference more so than anything else that can actually be measured.

  • The best guys at each position from the '08 class, IMHO:

    QB--Luck, RG3
    RB--James, Ingram
    WR--Blackmon, AJ Green
    TE--Rudolph
    OL--Kalil, Jones
    DL--Bowers, Dareus
    LB--Arthur Brown, Hightower
    DB--Peterson, Mark Barron

Blackmon was in the '08 class? How did I miss that. Huge omission on my part. He might even be the #1 WR.

Yeah. He was a 3-star, redshirted in '08, put up 20/260/2 in '09, and went off in '10-'11.

Green is the better receiver. He was better in college, and is better in the pro's. Julio was on a better team in college, but thats about it.

Agree with this for the most part. AJ had elite ball skills. Julio showed flashes of it, but didn't get as many opportunities to get in a rhythm with the ball in the air. Not that it's a primary measuring stick in the NFL for receivers, but Julio is an elite blocker and more powerful as a ball carrier. I think they're hard to separate because they're both elite, with different go to strengths. I do think Julio will perform better in the NFL than college.
