Really OT, Moms or Posters on the board with baby girls?

  • I don't have a little girl and never have bought for one but my best friend's daughter is having her first birthday party tomorrow. I don't know what the hell to buy as a present for a one year old girl and would love any advice I can get.

My dipshit friends have given me the following:

    1. Give them $50 and just let them do whatever (Lame)
    2. Something that shakes and moves.

I'm hoping that someone on the board has bought a present for a girl around the same age on the board and could give me some advice. I'm going to the mall a little later and was hoping to go in with a gameplan. Any help would really be appreciated.

  • Soft dolls or teddy bears would work. Something that she can start learning things with are always good too. I wouldn't go with anything too noisy like a baby piano or anything like that.

Fvcking awesome Holly and thanks for the suggestion.

Hopefully I can find that Einstein Octopus at the mall but you have pointed me in the right direction at least. Even if I can't find that in particular, I'm sure I can find something along those lines.

  • Buy a stroller for the kids dolls. They love that crap. Or a shopping cart. Target has the strollers and I forget where we bought the shopping cart.

  • I don't really have anything of substance for you, OP, so I apologize. I want to rant a little bit.
I can't stand when parents have parties for babies. They're not going to remember or enjoy it, or even know what the hell is going on. It's all a guise for getting gifts. UGH. If you want to really annoy the parents, you should donate 50 bucks to a charity in her name.

    Gonig,

I typically tend to agree with you on things, but I don't really understand wtf you are going after on this one. It's more for the friends to get together and hang out and celebrate the kid in general. It's their first child.

Then have a get-together with everyone and not a birthday party. Just IMO.

I'm really not trying to dig on you. Think of it this way.

By your logic, you should just skip a kid's first Christmas, Easter, halloween and so forth because they won't remember it. So when do you start celebrating Christmas or Easter with your child? Memories are important.

  • Savings bonds? shrug It takes 7 years for them to get the value. By then the kid will realize where it came from. It's just what I do when they are that age.

We're not talking about my own (eventual) child though. We're talking about children of people I know. I wouldn't celebrate those holidays with anyone else's kids.

Well if it helps, I'm bringing my not yet 3 year old son along. I mean he's my best friend and it's his first child. We are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

Most people already hit on what I would do. The soft teddy bear or a stroller for her dolls. Don't go to cheap if you get a stroller, the cheap ones are cheap for a reason and break easy.

As for the why try a party for a kid that won't remember, it isn't just for the child, the memories are for everyone. My wife and I still talk about our first Christmases with the kids. We were more excited than they were.

agreed my 3 year old loves pushing around the stroller or being pushed. OP my daughter turned 1 yesterday and we bought her clothes and a noisy train. Everyone will buy her toys.

  • "Cute" cloths or definitely some type of Baby hat. Babies can't have much sunlight on them but a Onesie with a matching hat or pajama pants would be ideal, IMO.

I have no experience for this but it's not rocket science
