Recruit Diary: Lorenzo Carter

Carter looks better in his highlights and his size and wingspan is out of this world.

I've seen Carter play a couple of times in person and Hand only on film. I think Hand is better player right now but Carter may have more long-term potential due to his length. I'm not sure that Carter was the best defense player on Norcross last season but he did come on strong IMO as the season progressed.

Not yet the dominant player as the Junior Year-2011 Robert Nkemdiche was back then.

Depends on whether the ranking is based on college or NFL potential.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

Physically .... he's the Jevon Kearse of high school.

You think he's that elite/fast twitch of an athlete? He's a very good athlete but I don't think he has the freaky explosive suddenness that Kearse had.

At the Combine in 1999, Kearse was
    -6'5", 272
    -4.48 in 40 yd dash
    -4.24 in 5-10-5 shuttle
    -37 inch vertical

I'd have to watch Carter more but I don't think he has quite that type speed and pop. I think if he trained specifically for football he might "approach" that level but Kearse was a "super" freak athletically. Kearse was Clowney-like in terms of athletic talent.....but he wasn't Clowney overall as a player.

I said physically .... not athletically.

Very similar body type. Lean. Long reach.

I will tell you that Carter isn't that fast, but his vertical is every bit as good.

  • Love the fact that he referred to his goal of straight A's as a "we" effort. His parents are on point with him. Hope he picks UGA wish him success where ever..unless he plays against UGA.
