Richest counties

  • It always bothers me when these lists come out that 4 of the top 5 wealthiest counties are around DC. It doesn't surprise me, but it does bother me.

When it boils down to zip codes, its more spread out. Mostly because of those pesky poor neighborhoods in some counties bringing down the average, but seriously though:who is surprised? coffee

Just to oppose this... Don't you want the smartest and best men/women in the country running our country? To be able to get those people to run our country you have to provide them with an incentive to do it instead of going to a private business.

I'd have to say a solid plurality of those living in those counties are working for lobbyists and/or as Barny would like to say,"leeching off the teet".

No, a plurality are government workers...having lived in DC, I know this to be true.

  • That's where I grew up. A lot of those people came from elsewhere just like my family. They moved there for the great, high-paying jobs. All that money resulted in them putting it into the education system. There are some really great schools in MD. The cycle repeats. The highest concentration of affluent African-Americans in the country is in PG County where I lived.

I currently reside in Howard County, listed #3. While it is plain suburbia, I have realized its a great place to grow up. The school system is phenomenal, library usually ranks around #1. The thing is, it's more connected to Baltimore than it is to DC.
