  • Look Hoos, you can get all of the top talent in the State of Virginia, but fact of the matter is, you still can't beat us in football. 3,386 days and counting. Oh, and during that time, UVA out-recruited VT in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2011 and still haven't put a team together that can beat us. Until that happens, me = not worried.

That is awesome. No way it is true, is it?

That is what he said in an interview. As far as recruiting players to VT. It was the UVA guys they were saying he was committing prior to those visits

We're the 28th ranked public institution.

In what ranking system? VT is a great University not saying it isn't but it is still 25 to 75 spots behind said lil brother.

I do remember reading an interview of him getting accused of a reverse scenario recruting kids to UVA at a VT camp. Not that it matters now anyway but I do recall that. I didn't recall him saying he visited UVA so many times to recruit kids to VT, I know a couple of those visits he was the only recruit on campus for those visists.

You can call us little brother on an academic message board. Fine by me. But since we're on a football message board, it seems relevant to discuss football when comparing the two schools. So I think it's fair for us to call you little brother when it comes to football.

You were great on 3rd down with Thomas going up the middle for short gains. But you have zero--like squat--in terms of explosive ability on that side of the ball. Well you have Coleman and if they use him properly he could be your guy--but outside of him---nothing doin'

Not sure if you actually want to talk football or not but here is our skill positions: Knowles is a So this year and was coming into his own last year finished with 19 catches and was 12th in the nation in KO returns. Did you know that our best WR RSed last year and will be a RS Sr this year in DJ Coles. We have a top 5 player in the state at WR that will be a RS Fr. We do not know if Edmunds or Mangus will be as good as we thing but they with JC will likely be out RB's this year...Edmunds has huge potential as a LB so keeping him as RB says something....I will concede that we are not settled at RB but IMO that has as much to do with our good awful coaching set up last year as it did the actual talent, I would also say that is what might be what held back our OL....but we don't know?

Again on D, we have more talent and depth than we have ever had before. Our last half of the season (last 7 games) would have had us ranked 5th in the National on total D. That was vs FSU, Miami, Clemson, UVA, Rutgers, Duke (who beat you again), BC. We held all of those opponents well under their season average...D wasn't our issue late...it was the good awful set up on O.

Not promising players playing time as a true freshman, allows them to redshirt and really helps their development. Glad we have so many from the 2012 class that had a chance to redshirt and will be able to contribute this year.

In Eli Harold's case, I can use him as an example, why redshirt him? If he ends up being as good as people think he would never be a 5th year anyway. Why not get 4 years out of him. I agree on some of the others I would have liked to see redshirt but depth has a lot to do with that. He did say with this last recruiting class that they are building depth and should start being able to redshirt the majority of the classes in the future.

Imagine our team if we could have RS Eddie Whitley....he would have been a difference maker on D. I wish Frye got his shirt last year...I think Marshall and Maddy can leave for the NFL after next season, but it would certainly help.

Exum is a RS Sr this year, we would be in trouble without him...same with Gayle...hell I just looked and a huge % of our team are RS Seniors. And many of these kids will have draft potential that would not have if they didn't have one extra season to shine.

  • I agree 100% if the kid can be a top 3 round pick after his 4th season. But he was very light last year and while he had moments he has a lot of weight to gain to be considered a top 3 round NFL pick. He reminds me of Jason Worilds, a really good DE on the college level but a tweener as a DE or LB in the NFL. Might have been a better WR/TE Vernon Davis / Anquan Boldin type player. I'm not knocking the kid even a little, he can be a hell of a player at DE, but he was the same size as some of our WR, including Joel Caleb...who IMO can be an AA type Safety but is at WR.

OR is he a kid that simply needs to play for his own sake, I don't say that negatively but some kids will not be able to make it a full year with out playing football, and as we have seen he very well might be one of them. I think we had a kid like that on our team last year, he played, and if he wasn't playing he very well may have left.

Now that is a very good point. I remember when we had Wilson, Williams, and Evans, many were saying Wilson should redshirt. It was obvious how good he was at the time, and no idea why anyone would have thought he would have stayed 5 years. He stayed 3. If the player is ready, put him on the field. Kendall Fuller coming in this season, you got to play him. All his brothers will be in or have been in the pros, and he is the highest rated one coming into college. Doesn't matter where or how much you play him, but better get what you can out of him.
