Rock Thomas 2014 RB. Best 2014 back?

  • Probably the best highlight tape I have seen of a RB in a long long time. 5 Star written all over him. Complete monster.

  • Also, nice to see a highlight video where the background music isn't just whatever the popular rap song is at the time.

    Much better than Scarborough IMO

I would agree with this. Never thought that would be the case, but Rock's new highlights are as good as anyone in this years class. He's more of a pure RB.

As a true RB i would agree. Scarborough is a physical freak, and will need to find the right place for him at Alabama before he will be able to move forward. I think OLB might be a great place for him, but i think he ends up at WR.

Not to mention that Rock put up those highlights against a brutal schedule

  • Certainly doesn't look like he likes to get tackled.

That first run of the highlight tape after the KR is ridiculous.

  • Any other year, yes and this is no slight at Rock.. Fournette is just on another level and probably will be the number 1 overall prospect in '14. Size and speed he has is extremely rare

Danielle Hunter, Jamario Rasco, Anthony FREAK Johnson.. DL wrecking crew of 2013.

  • His balance and change of direction ability are top notch. The jump cut at 3:30 was just nasty.

Definitely the best RB prospect since AD imo.

  • Give me Rock Thomas as the #1 RB in the 2014 Class. His style is conducive for longevity as his shiftiness limits the level of punishment he takes.

I agree that Fournette is perhaps the better "current prospect" but if I'm a college coach I'd prefer Rock as his style is more likely to translate to the college and eventually the NFL game. His shiftiness/agility is what makes him elite IMO. I simply prefer RBs in high school that dominate due to "skill" and not because of physical superiority as that physical dominance won't be as extreme in college and unless you are Herschel or Bo......it'll be non-existent in the NFL.

RB "Skills" over "SPARQ" Champions or Physical Studs ALL DAY.... in terms of prospects as Skill translates better to higher levels of competition.

Only concern is Rock is more of a mesomorph body-type [where the more successful, durable NFL RBs are a hybrid mesomorph/endomorph] so I'm not sure how he will handle weight-gain in terms of maintaining his speed & agility.

    Track record says:

You listed Gurley as the #1 RB in 2011 - correct (although TJ is right there with him)
You were also high on Kenyan Drake - correct again
You listed Tyren Jones as the #1 RB in this class - I hope you are correct
You list Thomas as #1 RB in 2014 - I'll take it!

  • If Roc Thomas isn't AT LEAST the #2 RB in the nation next year and a 5 star, then I give up on trying to understand RB evaluations. I can see why he's #41 right now if it's based on his sophomore year, but he's made major improvements, and probably will again going into '13.

If Alex Collins and Kelvin Taylor are 5*'s, Roc is a 6* and Fournette is a 7*.

Don't get me wrong, 247 does the best job in the business imo (and it's early), but Thomas' don't come along every year, much less Fournette's. Incredible RB prospects.

    TylerDD

  • His burst and acceleration is other-worldly. As others have stated, he also has a great combination of balance and an ability to turn his body so as to avoid big licks. He seems to be a big Bama lean at this point, but I'm sure other schools will point out our RB depth chart extensively throughout the next year. I expect it to be a battle for his signature with Yeldon, Drake, Henry, Tenpenny, and Tyren all fighting for carries.

Looking at pictures of him from this past season, he's the lightest 191-pounder I've seen (if accurate, which I doubt).

I'd guess he was playing at over 200 easily in those highlights, but I could be wrong.

  • LOLZ at the moves he was putting on the Titans(6A school where I live, also Dre Kirk and Jerrel went there)

Don't be surprised because everything about Tyren's film and on-field production screamed 5* RB to me and it didn't happen....and I said same about Kelvin Taylor and others. No knock on them but if they are 5* then hmmm.......

Roc's Jr film reminds me a lot of Tyren's Jr film ....to me, the film doesn't lie....stats' can lie and physical appearance can fool me, but the film don't lie IMO

Oh the film can definitely lie like Bryce Brown. Lower competition makes a lot of players look way better than they really are.

That being said, Roc is a beast and should be a 5*

Fournette is the best RB in that class with Roc and Scarborough right behind.
