I like how Jeff Van Gundy calls it an "incredible elbow to the head". Incredible isn't really the adjective I'd use on a cheapshot blow to the side of someones head.

JVG was distracted thinking whose leg he was going to go grab onto if a fight broke out.

I'll be honest. That may be one of those plays that transcends sport and requires legal attention. Just throwing that out for thought.

Agree, if it's blatantly an assault, charge them, regardless of the sport...

  • What's ridiculous on that picture is that the players should take their teammate's back and go after the guy. Where are the coaches and trainers?

I personally don't agree with that but to each his own.

Well the argument ender on this topic is the Todd Bertuzzi assault in hockey from like 5 years ago. If you wouldn't call the police on him you are a fool. Plain and simple. No arguments.

So, using that as a standard that says you can be arrested for on field/court/rink actions it opens up the discussion at large.

I would think that issues like this that it should be on the player whether or not to press charges or not. If there is a serious injury like with Bertuzzi then I'm all for the cops taking matter in their own hands. I'm assuming that Harden isn't seriously injured and would prefer the cops stay out of it or he looks like a pvssy.

If the player wants to be ostracized and press charges then that's up to him. I just don't think the cops should start charging people for stuff like this if the guy gets up and shakes it off.

I agree with you. I DO think the NBA should suspend Artest for 10 games.

Have mixed feelings about your post. Will the cops (eventually the DA) take a harder look at opposing teams? On the + side, if it's taken out of the players' hands there would be no "pussy" ramifications...Bottom line is that that it seems that there is increasing violence in sports that happens outside the whistles, and it needs to be addressed...

He should be outlawed from the league, guy has done disgusting acts over and over. When is enough, enough?

    This.

Enough already and it goes for all sports, If you can't play clean then GTFO. The hit isn't even debatable, it's downright dirty.

Exactly. And there are RARE incidences in which the law should get involved. Like in this instance they shouldn't because Harden was just shaken up. But the league should absolutely embarrass him.

Yeah but then you have to say when is enough a enough when the cops start meddling. Do they start saying that hard fouls are assault in basketball and suspect hits are assault with a deadly weapon in football? You riding down a slippery slope when the law can start putting a chokehold in our sports arenas.

USC is a powerful place that Lane Kiffin is ruining.

  • Cops? In pro sports?

I would think this type of stuff is in player contracts.

Was it a dirty play? Sure. But, there have been worse.

If cops were to get involved in an incident like this, then the NFL would become flag football.

There are elbows thrown in the gm of basketball, some violently. Artest is a warrior, decent or not.
    He's a modern day Lambier.

His reputation sucks, but Id want to kick a guys ass that throws a cup of beer on me also, fan or not. Acting on it of course is different, but in tense moments things get out of hand.

Artest is just known due to his rep, but there is an enforcer on every squad in professional sports, that has physical contact.

I tried to splain it. He was hootin and hollerin aftet the dunk. There was no readon for harden to come get up under him but he went out of his way to do so. He always bumps his gums and gets tangled with people then throws hus arms up pussy kg style. Today he bumped and got bumped back. Bet he is careful who he steps to next time.

You will also find an incident involving Bertuzzi and Steve Moore in 2004 between the Canucks and Avalanche. Lots of incredibly dirty plays in hockey that I can name at the top of my head.

I'm not excusing MWP, but I've seen plenty worse. If he gets 10+ games I would understand. I don't think the OKC DA should get involved. I'm sure Commissioner Stern will handle it.
