SCOTUS strikes down Arizona immigration law

in case you missed it, Me and my wife went through it, it was not hard, you go to an attorney, fill the papers out, get a work card so you can work while you go through the process. You go to interviews, finger printing, criminal back ground checks...really was not hard at all, just takes time.

One part of the equation that you keep leaving out is yourself though.

That is a huge factor in your wife's situation.

not me, my wife, she was Chinese born and after getting her degrees she moved to Italy and became an Italian Citizen. was a smart move on her part. so I guess you could say she immigrated from Italy. I see your point, could be because of the turmoil in Africa..I hate that for you man.

Yeah I think the difference for my family and your wife is that she is one person with a degree. My family is a family of 6, and at the time, only my dad had a degree in anything. They favor people with degrees.

Which I don't want to lessen, I just want to be able to point out the complex and varied manner that is immigration.

It's not cut and dry as some would like to think.

Your situation and the Kenyan gentleman's has shown that.

    Thanks for sharing btw.

I agree, I feel bad for him but glad his family is here now....but it also shows you they had no family here and they went the legal rout, some forks in life are tougher than others, there is no excuse not to go the legal rout though.

  • Anyone with $500,000 can buy a citizenship. FWIW

    Yeah, I said it.

    shalvoy

  • My point being that this is clearly a racist law that targets brown people. No white people are going to be asked for their papers....

    Yeah, I said it.

maybe because we have a problem with illegal Mexicans crossing the border and their skin is a little browner? why not say short people profiling? this political correct bullshit is killing this country. makes people lose all common sense

My parents are actually originally from India (the immigrated to Kenya in the 80s so theyre used to all the bs thrown at them from embassies). We went the legal route and came here and have more opportunities than ever before. Yet, there are some americans that treat us as nothing more than pests upon the system. Its quite sad actually. We've made the most of the opportunities. All three of my sisters are now doctors and i'm aiming to be the 4th in the family so it's not like we're not contributing to society. I guess some people just won't look past the fact that my family is brown...

Not every Mexican has dark skin.
Some look very European or White Hispanic. I imagine they would be less likely to be profiled than a Mexican who has more Native Indian skin.

I remember the day my wife was sworn in...seems every country on earth was represented in that ceremony....then they played Lee Greenwoods Proud to be an American and there was not a dry eye in the room.

Well if he was referring to the Arizona laws, then yes I do think it's applicable.

Illegal immigrants and more spectically Latino Americans come in all colors, but the law's basis stems from profiling, which tends to focus on color.

It's not much different than the whole Muslim terrorist profiling situation after 9/11.

    There are better methods.

If my mother's grandparents would have went the legal way, they probably would have been killed or sent to prison camps by the Nazis. It was either escape to America to live a better life in this beautiful country or be forced into prison camps by the Nazis when Hitler invaded Poland.

As the great-grandkid of an illegal immigrant, I have no problems with people coming here illegally to make a better life for their selves.
