  • If there were any reason to stay in the ACC, there is none now. ACC is about to be relegated EPL style to the ranks of the Big East (or conf usa if we take Clemson and another football team).

Because it will be exactly like the Rose bowl for big10/Pac if the playoff doesnt happen- which we dont know it will. If they do go with the bowls for conference champion format this is pushing towards it being Big10/Pac- Rose vs SEC/Big12- Cotton or Sugar for championship.

Their are clearly 4 top conferences in agreement with each other. All others are looking in trying to justify. You act as if we know the playoff system right now

Does anyone know when the SEC/Big 12 deal starts?

Because the playoff format wont happen for another 2-3 years I believe

Vt and nc state seem like possibilities.

I think Clemson and FSU are leaning to Big 12

The Deal between SEC/Big12 starts on the Bowls for 2014 season, the playoff is not set up yet.

    That's what I figured.

This deal is putting pressure for the superconferences.

    Peace out Big East/ACC.

Gotta wonder how this affects basketball

  • Good move by Slive and Big 12. VT better get on board quickly.. going to miss one of these trains.

  • The more this plays out the more it becomes apparent that Delany and Slive are simply running the 'two brothers and a stranger' con on everyone.

  • Quote I found on twitter. Smart man Slive is.

  • The big question is.... Does the SEC want 16 teams?

I think 14 makes the most sense for the "Big 4 Conferences", just because the pod system of a 16 team conference seems like it would be too difficult to get a team into the 4 team playoff for the national championship

I could see the B1G making a push for Maryland and Pitt eventually to get to 14 or the off chance they could get ND

Big 12 going after FSU and Clemson to get back to 12 then making a push for 2 other ACC schools or 1 ACC school and a Big East school like a Louisville

PAC 12 gets rid of their bias against religious schools and takes BYU and another school out west.

That then leaves the ACC and Big East scraps to merge and have a big happy basketball conference

Just my opinion, either way the ACC and Big East are done as football conferences and the Orange Bowl is done as a meaningful bowl game as well do to the Big12/SEC agreement.

  • I've read that the conferences will open up the process of searching for a site for this game. They will seek to control the process and take away control from the bowl commissioners. Andy Staples suggested on Twitter that they will be open minded about location and named San Antonio, Dallas, St. Louis, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, and Kansas City as possibilities. Obviously those cities aren't all on equal footing, but if the conferences are willing to look away from current major bowl sites, I would think that Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta and Houston have the best shot at the game. It has also been suggested that the game will rotate from site to site.

I'd rather them stay at 14. Honestly, I liked it when we were with 12, but I'm excited about seeing 2 new teams in the league and seeing how they will fare.

  • This year's Cotton Bowl is scheduled for 01/04/2013. I think that this will become the Cotton Bowl, or the Cotton Bowl will be moved.

I wonder if the Cotton Bowl and Sugar Bowl form a partnership to rotate or the Sugar Bowl or Cotton Bowl bids or something.

To be honest, I'd be nice to bring some prestige back to the Cotton Bowl and say fvck you to the Fiesta Bowl or make it the Tostitos Cotton Bowl or something.

Not sure if I would want to take away from the Sugar Bowl to do that though.

I wish the cotton bowl would become real significan again as well. It is a big part of our history, then again nearly all the major bowls are biggrin

Yeah I sent him a tweet asking if the Sugar or Cotton Bowl would be the best spots. \His response was to think more about the cities not the bowl. That's what I actually meant but was just referring to the current bowls. I'm guessing there is a chance a new bowl could be created. I don't know though.

To be honest, San Antonio is the only one that has a good location and atmosphere.

But the stadium compared to the others listed is garbage and that has to factor into the decisions somewhat

I think 14 is horrible from a schedule perspective. And I HATE the 1 permanent, 1 rotating. You could play all 4 years and never play a team in your conference. I think if Bama/UT + UGA/Auburn want to play every year, let them. Just use a OOC slot when it is not on the SEC schedule...
