SEC / Big 12 Sugar Bowl agreement

  • AtlGator19 said...

During the 14-year history of the Bowl Championship Series the Big 12 and SEC lead the nation with 11 seasons in which each conference has had at least one team ranked in the top four of the final BCS standings. Both conferences share the top spot all-time with 14 teams each that have finished in the top four of the final BCS Standings. The two conferences have combined for 16 appearances in the BCS National Championship Game, with the Big 12 ranking second behind the SEC’s nine appearances with seven trips to the National Championship Game.

The two league champions have met twice in BCS bowl games since 1998, both in BCS National Championship Games. In 2010, Alabama spanked a Ponyless Texas, 37-21, in Pasadena, Cal., and in 2009, Florida smothered Oklahoma, 24-14, in Miami, Fla.

just curious but which Conference has lost the most NCG 's in the BCS's 14 year history ?

i doubt the SEC needs to copy the model of others at this juncture , do you ? coffee

If they want to have a more valid way to determine who is best they do. Is it really fair to the rest of the SEC East that Georgia plays an absolute cake of a schedule? More conference games, mean more equity in conference schedules. I understand that playing only 8 gives them a major advantage in polling and such, another reason polls should not be used. Too easily manipulated.

I'm talking about where, I think, devidee put the conference champion runner-up in the non-playoff bowls. Like I said, if they aren't a part of the playoff, there is no reason to have any team but the "best" team for the bowl.

That list came from a Houston blog. He didn't create it. But I agree with your point. No way in hell would Missouri have deserved to be in over Texas or even Texas Tech in 2008.

i agree . 70 % of the Bowl matchups have sucked for years .

and its ashame after all the libs & losers cried to get OSU a title shot a year ago
that the Cowpokes found a way to dodge a beating from Arkansas in a Bowl game .

that's the chatter on your board?

"Every time anything happens w/ any conference, I get "Will THIS force Notre Dame to join a conference?" emails. Answer hasn't changed. If anything, ND will be better off in new BCS. Nothing stopping it from signing its own 5-year deal with, say, the Orange Bowl."-Stewart Mandel SI

This was a well played hand by the Big 12, and all they had to do was Get FSU on board, that guarantees ND will not go ACC, and they can take what they want and let the SEC had the 2 they want...super conf are here, today cemented that.

Hello SEC, I can't see us going Big 12, but I'd rather than than the "New" ACC

man the ACC is going to be trash. Maybe the SEC can trade Vandy for VT.

VT would fit nicely with the New Big 12. Renew the rivalry with WVU, be part of the eastern division with WVU, Clemson, FSU and one more. GT maybe.

I honestly do not see conferences going to 16 teams right now. I just don't see it happening. Big 12 will take 4, B1G will take 2 and conferences will call it a day for a long while, IMO. Tobacco Road will raid the Big East again, and possibly even invite Georgetown, Nova, St. Johns, ect... for basketball.

  • Best case scenario for the Big XII is the following:

FSU and Clemson are locked in.

IF we can convince Notre Dame that it's time to make a move, we can perhaps get Georgia Tech in on this party too since those two schools have history.

If Georgia Tech is too connected to Tobacco Road, then I think the Big XII takes a look at Pittsburgh, another school Notre Dame has history with and it'd make a LOT of sense with the recent West Virginia addition.

So that's what I'm hoping for. FSU, Clemson, Notre Dame, and either 1.) Georgia Tech or 2.) Pittsburgh to make it 14.

If Notre Dame decides to be stubborn and independent, might as well just add both Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh if possible. If not Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech. There are a lot of good options, but the crucial school in all this at this point seems to be Notre Dame. I hope they hop aboard the SJGRC (Sh*t Just Got Real Conference) train.

I think the BE Basketball only school’s will just start their own conference before joining the ACC. If ND decides/ is able to stay indy, they probably will join the new conference as well in all sport’s besides FB.

I'm thinkin the improbable happens. Notre Dame joins the Big XII. Georgia Tech follows.

why would ND join a big 12 over a B1G??? just out of interest? when you look at ND schedule it is filled with B1G/:Pac-12 Schools.....

Maybe I am letting my Gamecock bias take over...but you really think Clemson is a better option (long term) than Miami? I understand that they have a better team right now. Miami's brand is much better. They also have a phenomenal baseball program.

Miami is a very small school with few fans north of Orlando.I live in the Florida panhandle and there are few fans up here.So small fan base that doesnt travel well and not alot of eyes for TV.With FSU we would get some tv,s in Fl and Clemnson would be a whole new region for tv and recruiting.

The state of Florida may have regional divisions as far as fans, but Miami has a national following. Their alumni are particularly concentrated in the Northeast. The South Florida market is better from a TV standpoint and a recruiting standpoint than Upstate South Carolina.

FSU,Clemson,VT and GT would be terrific gets for the Big 12, if GT is still set on the ACC then Maryland gets the call IMO, good recruiting area, has had money woes recently and TWO big tv markets in DC and Baltimore like Mizzu gave the SEC. ND would be huge but ya just never know with them.

You put Louisville,Cincy,UConn, Rutgers in the ACC and they have all the hoops anyone could ever want, some football and dont forget ECU sitting right there and some would argue every bit as good a program as UL and Cincy/RU/UConn if they had a lil more money to spend, their conference tourney goes to NYC as Swofford has suggested and a bunch of buyout money to work with. Not a terrible ending for a hoops first conference that just got gutted for their football first schools.

IMO the U is not worth the risk, yes thats a good tv market and great recruiting area but a program that doesnt have great fan support on gameday and could possibly be looking at a death penalty type situation? na thanks, and thats no hate twards the U just a concern, to me that situation just smells like SMU all over again.
