SEC Expansion?

  • Kyle Bailey ‏@TheClubhouseKB

#Hokies AD Jim Weaver says there "may be potential interest" in talking with the #SEC about future membership. Defers comment otherwise.

  • Not a bad idea - it is going the way of the super conference era anyway

Just spoke w/#Hokies AD Jim Weaver about #SEC: "I just can't believe people are misrepresenting what I said."

    David Teel ‏@DavidTeelatDP

Weaver continued: "There's nothing happening in regard to Virginia Tech going anywhere. I don't know how to say it any clearer than that."

    David Teel David Teel ‏@DavidTeelatDP

More Weaver: "We've always wanted to be in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and we're pleased to be there."

If you want Virginia collegiate sports information, go to David Teel. There is a reason he was able journalist that got Weaver on the phone after the SEC quote. Definitely worth the follow if you are interested in VA sports.

  • V-tech would be a good fit in the SEC.. I do think Beamers should be gone though.. He seems washed up and I think it's time for a new HC at V-tech.

Meh.. He probably got told not to repeat anything because they're still in the ACC.. Where there's smoke, there's fire..

Anyways, the expansion, if the SEC were to expand, wouldn't be until 2014 anyways but V-tech is obviously on the SEC's radar

The ACC is being poached. The odds of survival is not very good.

Sounds like an AD is trying to cover his tracks, IMO.

With the ACC leaving and at least one other team actively "listening" in FSU, no way Va Tech is just holding on to the status quo, IMO.

Any ACC program serious about football would listen to any other conference (B1G/SEC/B12) that might be interested.

Unfortunately, 4 schools (UF, UGA, SCar, and UK) would block FSU's entrance, but no one would do so to Va Tech.

  • Hearing the SEC is trying to not allow UF and UGA to vote against FSU from joining the SEC.. This isn't just hearsay, there's actually some truth to this.

I would love for that to be true, but I have my doubts. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I'd rather have 2 out of VT, Clemson, or FSU.

The foot print thing is overblown, IMO. It's a big deal, but the markets in the South are smaller already. Put the best product you can on the field and the money will be there in record number via ESPN and CBS. Throw in the SEC network and things will be fine.

Bringing in programs like Maryland and Rutgers is some good markets, but also by lessening the product, it can hurt the national deals.

Kind of what I was thinking. FSU may get blocked but Clemson makes the most sense to take that position. UNC would make sense to get that TV market but I'm not sure that UNC would ever leave Duke on the basketball front. Of course money talks and BS walks so who knows. I'm sure that the higher ups in the SEC would pick FSU if they had their choice but not sure if the four schools you listed earlier would allow that to happen. My guess would be VT in the East and Clemson in the West. That is just a complete guess though.

You do know south Carolina is one of those four schools right, so they would try to block Clemson to along with the gators, dawgs, and what Kentucky.

Lol clemson would never be a member of the SEC. The acc is a sinking ship. I wouldn't mind vt and maybe Louisville.
