Come on Florida, this is terrible....

Sugar Bowl reports smallest crowd since 1939 as overall bowl attendance down 5%

The Outback, Music City, Holiday and Capital One bowls all drew more fans than Louisville-Florida at the Sugar.

Not speaking for Florida in this instance but to the overall bowl attendance, but attendance for most sports and leagues overall have been declining in recent years (presumably due to TVs, economics...stuff like that). Funny thing is, the bowls don't care about attendance because they make their money in TV.

Yea. The schools get burned hard. A school like Florida can eat a bad showing, but some of the small schools can't.

Here's part of the problem
1. Florida fans don't travel well, Gator fans will argue this but we seem to have poor showings for bowl games not in the state of Florida
2. Florida fans have had to travel plenty this year. Basketball team went to the Elite 8, baseball team went to the CWS. We had a pretty solid showing of Florida fans @ the Texas A&M game.
3. A lot of Florida fans travel to New Orleans every other year when we play @ LSU, its really nothing new for most Florida fans.
4. It was a Sugar Bowl Match up vs a Big East school. Yes we got our butt handed to us, but many people were saying had we got Oklahoma they would have gone to the game, Louisville wasn't worth the money to travel to the game. If the Gators were playing Oregon or a top 5 team i bet more fans would have shown up. At the time Louisville was not an interesting match up.
5. The school was charging far more for tickets than they were going for on Stubhub. Will Muschamp made a joke about it in a PC saying the fans found a loop hole where they could buy tickets from somewhere else other than the school.
Our attendance has been pretty poor though, even when we were having a great season we couldn't fill the stadium. A lot of teams are dealing with the issues of the economy and the cost of travel.
With HDTV's, dealing out thousands of dollars to see a bowl game isn't worth the time or money to a lot of people.

That's a problem everywhere except for BCS CG or a really good matchup. The tix given to schools are the worst ones in the stadium and the masses are starting to realize it.

All applies except ND... In Ireland ND still had 60k in attendance and Navy didn't exactly have a lot of fans there! The last 2 years ND has sold out bowl games that had never sold out before... There was over 100,000 requests made to ND this year alone for the National Championship Game ...

Better than the Sugar was, don't worry.
O and when VT was in the Sugar last year it was better too, not to mention it takes us 3 times as long to travel from VA to NOLA.
