SEC grind is such bs. Yes there are certainly many good teams in the sec, but for the most part the schedules are not that daunting. Every once in a while you will have a team that will have a very tough grind, but not most of em. hell each sec team does not even play 6 of the conference opponents.

    Show me Georgia's sec grind

ftr UGA played 3 top 10 teams this year

Yes, the schedules are a grind in the SEC and they're tough. But your own conference this year helped dispel the notion that it's beyond what other teams know/experience. Look at Texas A&M. They weren't very good in the Big 12, but went 10-2 in the SEC? Beat the conference champion? Yes, it's a new HC, but he's one from Houston. That's not exactly the SEC.

Texas A&M is obviously the exception. They would have had the monstrous breakout season regardless of what league they are in. Look at the draft boards and at what is going to be drafted. They had great line play and the only freshmen to ever win a Heisman playing QB. He's a freshmen meaning no one knew about him or expected this season. Texas A&M was pretty close last year, they just didn't break out.

If you are using Texas A&M as an example why not look at Missouri also? They had a winning record the past 7 years in the Big 12. The had overall records of 8-5, 10-3, 8-5, 10-4, 12-2, 8-5, and 7-5. During that time they never had a losing conference record, finishing 5-4, 6-2, 4-4, 5-3, 7-1, 4-4, and 4-4. Their first year in the SEC they were 5-7 and 2-6 in conference.

Adding Missouri to the discussion is fine. What happened to them was relatively expected. The reason I didn't add them to my post is because if what the SEC fans claim is true, then what aTm did shouldn't happen, regardless of what happened to Missouri.

I absolutely understand and pretty much concur with your points on aTm. However...I'm not sure saying "aTm would have broken out regardless of league," is helping the whole point that the SEC is head and shoulders above. I already said the SEC is the best conference, not disagreeing with that. My point is that the SEC is not necessarily this huge unbeatable grind, as implied by the OP.

Yes, aTm has some very good players. But if this was the beginning of the season and I was arguing that aTm would do really well in the SEC, what would have been the response? "They've never played this kind of brutal schedule before." Well, they played it and did quite well. And the fact that a RS Freshman QB did as well as he did in the SEC doesn't really help the argument for saying the SEC schedule is beyond brutal. It's tough, no doubt, especially relative to other conferences. Just feel like people exaggerate it.

I see your points and they are fair ones, but Manziel being the only freshman to ever win the Heisman kinda balances that out. Did I expect Texas A&M to come in and win 10 games in year one of the SEC? Absolutely not. I don't know anyone who did. But with what we now know about Manziel and the A&M lines I do not think it is a stretch to think they would win 10 games in the Big 12, B1G, PAC 12, or ACC. Which 3 teams in any league are better than A&M? I don't think there is one league that has 3 or more teams better than A&M.

That's kind of my point, though. A redshirt freshman QB should not be able to win the Heisman going against SEC defenses for the first time, wouldn't you say? Especially with a coach who previously had been at Houston.

I can get on board with your last point. But that still puts the SEC about on par with other conferences, rather than 20 strokes ahead of the field.
