Isn't Petrino's signature win against Jim Grobe in the Orange bowl?

He had a win over a top 10 LSU team in 2010.

This is what I don't get. WTF has Petrino proven?

He proved twice that he could take a team in the gutter to a BCS bowl game in just a few years.

  • Hire Petrino JMO.....if he can win at Arkansas then there is no doubt in my mind that he can win at Auburn.

34-17 in 4 seasons at Arkansas in what was one of the toughest divisions in college football ever is nothing to sneeze about, IMO. He had 4 teams in his division over the 4 years he coached play for the BCS title. 29-10 if you take out the first year when he had no one is the 13th best winning % in college football over that time period.

Petrino was 17-15 in the SEC as well, 15-9 without the first year and 12-4 his last 2 seasons.

17-15 may not be overly impressive as a whole, but look at it his way: Since 2008 (same time period), Patterson has been a combined 5-6 vs the Big12. His only win against a Big12 team with more than 7 wins was this year against Texas.

Same LSU team that beat us that year. Not sure what is funny about that.

Why does Arky have that reputation? They have been to the SECCG 3 times under 2 coaches(not Petrino) . Au has been to 4 and USC has been to 1

He was winning games at Arkansas with lesser talent. He should be able to recruit really well at Auburn

He recruited really well at Arkansas. That's a myth. He recruits the guys he wants for his system with no regard for recruit rankings. Then he coaches them up.

Agreed....and I think he will still do that. I'm just saying he should be able to attract better recruits at Auburn. I think he has to put together a great defensive staff at Auburn too if he gets the job

BTW your reasoning on Petrino should completely change your thoughts on Patterson. TCU gets scrub recruits compared to Texas, aTm and Oklahoma. He coaches them up for realz.

I agree and think he is a great coach

You don't hire a guy based on a win. That's hilarious. I think Petrino is a good not great coach. Au can do better. I hope they hire him if my #1 choice(Malzahn) doesn't get the job.

So you would have hired Dan Hawkins to Arkansas if this was 2005 and not 2012?

Winning in the MWC conference with Texas as your main recruiting base versus teams in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Wyoming isn't very impressive, IMO.

But he also got blue chippers compared to UNLV, New Mexico, Wyoming, Air Force, and Colorado St.

The argument can work both ways.

He was also 3-5 (.375) againt AQ teams that actually had a winning record in their conference, so it's not like he was coaching them up to great heights. Petrino is 14-16 (.467) in those same games in his career.

So you wouldn't have hired Urban Meyer?

Me personally? No, because I wouldn't want the offense he runs.

If it was for another team, maybe. He had a better resume at Utah that Patterson does at TCU. Meyer was 5-0 against AQ teams with a winning conference record, which would mean he really was coaching them up and not just beating sisters of the poor regularly. I also wouldn't have Meyer with a losing conference record in a BCS conference to go off of either. I would hope that I could also notice difference in what type of recruiter they would be. People knew Meyer would be a great recruiter. I am not sure the same could be said for Patterson. He could do OK at a school that recruits itself like Texas, but somewhere like Auburn that would be a little tougher could be an issue.

    cheers

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- The biggest question when two-time BCS buster TCU made the move to the Big 12 was whether the Horned Frogs could handle the week-to-week grind of playing in a major conference. Well, coach Gary Patterson and his young, bowl-bound Frogs (7-4, 4-4 Big 12) have done just fine in their inaugural Big 12 season, even though they won't win at least 11 games for the fifth year in a row, claim their fourth consecutive conference title or be part of the Bowl Championship Series. They can finish in the upper half of the only league sending 90 percent of its teams to bowl games (nine of 10) and have won four Big 12 road games, including Thanksgiving night at Texas. All while playing an FBS-high 28 freshmen, plus 20 sophomores, having to make an unplanned quarterback switch a month into the season and with only one senior starter on defense. ''Very, very proud of this group of kids the way they've fought, the way they've played, how they've done things, found ways to win,'' said Patterson, TCU's winningest coach at 116-34 in his 12th season. ''Now you're looking at having a chance to be 8-4 and get to a bowl game and do the things you need to do and kind of get a jump start for next season.''

I guess I have higher expectations than you of a coach. I also would say that the off the field issues that his players got into to cause that mess has been part of the problem at Auburn, so I am not sure why they would want to hire someone that just had so much controvery with players being suspended and dismissed from the team.

You think Bobby Petrino is tha shazit. Hahahahah. "Higher expectations". Hahahahaha. "Off the field issues". Killing me dude.

Which Arkansas players had off the field issues?

Did he ever have to suspend or kick almost 20 players off a team in one offseason?

It's OK. You like Patterson. I do not. You think he's Meyer. I think he's Hawkins.

Petrino is one of the better coaches & alot of Aub fans are now in a do or die mode about getting him to the Plains.

would he be a solid HC ? sure he would
would he be a PR nightmare ? sure he would

now with that said, i would still take a good long hard look at others 1st & here's yet a few more names for thought .

Lol. No we aren't. Stop being a punk little girl.

I wasn't being a smartalec. I don't follow Auburn football closely but NCAA investigators knocking on your door is not a good sign. The name calling is juvenile. I could care less who you hire.

Art Schlichter's cellmates and Mo Clarett's rugby team believe Ohio State always does things honestly.....

He thinks the world follows AU football which they obviously don't. I wouldn't let him get to you on any level.
