SEC getting it's own network (I mean besides ESPN)

Looks like the SEC will have it's own network, similar to the Big Ten Network, up and running by 2014.
The BTN started broadcasting 5 years ago. But hey, Jim Delany is a trendsetter.

It depends on where you live and which cable provider you have. BTN is on the basic tier of most cable providers throughout the B10 footprint and some cable providers outside the B10 footprint. I'm also pretty sure it's available on the basic tier of DirectTV nationally. And where we are not on the basic tier, we generally are available via a sports package.

While the sec should receive a good bump in revenue from CBS/ESPN, the network is going to be the cash cow long term.

What a joke...the BIG-10 were the innovators and movers...with the great minds that started all this. Easy to make a snarky comment when your conference benefited from the BIG working out the kinks.

it only took the big baby conference 20 years to discover the benefit of having a conference championship game. The SEC started that trend in 1992 and the first winner of the SEC Championship game went on to win the NC. You big wus fans know the rest of the story.Everyone does it now

CBS is not likely to go up much because the addition of A&M and Missouri isn't expected to impact them significantly. ESPN might, especially if the total number of games included in the deal goes up. OTOH if the extra games are targeted as inventory for your new network, that might be where you see the real value.

I've always thought that the BTN was a smart thing. It was a little risky but very well done. I really was hoping this was going to come about for us.

Agree. Huge risk, but it has changed the game for everyone. I was a bit surprised when the ACC announced their most recent deal and it didn't include plans for a network. Big mistake IMO. And the same will be true if the B12 does not do one (even if it excludes UT).
