I don't understand the argument. Why is it a stretch to believe the conference with the best coaches (as a whole as shown by paycheck), and the better players (as a whole based on recruiting rankings) is the better conference? Football in SEC territory is a higher priority (as a whole) than in any other conference's region.
Can the SEC be beaten? Sure, and that's one of the thing that makes football great, but the SEC is stronger top to bottom no doubt.

first things first, his #'s are a little off.
sec vs each conf (bowl and non-bowl):
non-bowls: Pos Team Record 1. Big Ten (8-4-0)--0.66667 2. ACC (44-38-0)--0.53659[1] 3. Big East (16-14-0)--0.53333 4. Pac-12 (10-12-0)--0.45455 5. Big 12 (8-11-0)--0.42105 Total (86-79-0)--0.52121
bowls: Pos Team Record 1. Pac-12 (1-0-0)--1.00000 2. Big 12 (19-8-0)--0.70370[1] 3. ACC (17-8-0)--0.68000 4. Big Ten (20-18-0)--0.52632 5. Big East (2-9-0)--0.18182 Total (59-43-0)--0.57843
Combined: Pos Team Record 1. Big 12 (27-19-0)--0.58696[1] 2. ACC (61-46-0)--0.57009[2] 3. Big Ten (28-22-0)--0.56000 4. Pac-12 (11-12-0)--0.47826 5. Big East (18-23-0)--0.43902 Total (145-122-0)--0.54307
second, i am of the belief that the sec is NOT head and shoulders above other conferences in any given year. i think each year they are among the top 2-3, and often the best, but it is not by an overly large margin. over time, however, the sec is at the top more than other conferences, and thus the best over time.
3rd, he gives nothing to compare that to. how did the other conferences do out of conference vs bcs leagues? maybe that total of 145-122 (.543) is really good, or really bad. let's take a look (not going into detail for each conf like above):
bcs conf vs other bcs conf since 98 (bowls and reg season combined): Pos Team Record 1. SEC (145-122-0)--0.54307[1] 2. Pac-12 (110-97-0)--0.53140[2]* 3. Big 12 (125-122-0)--0.50607 4. ACC (145-164-0)--0.46926[3] 5. Big East (109-134-0)--0.44856* 6. Big Ten (105-131-0)--0.44492[4]
so the sec leads it, but not by terribly much (which gives credence to my opinion that the sec is best over time, but not by a whole lot.) everyone is hovering around .500, give or take.
finally, where i think the sec has really separated themselves is in the upper echelon, particularly the elite. beating a northwestern or ole miss isn't really that much more difficult than a low level non-bcs team.
so, how have the good teams in each conference fared vs the other good teams in other conferences? lets see:
year end ranked top 25 bcs teams vs top 25 bcs ooc opp (bowls and reg season combined) since 98: Pos Team Record 1. SEC (49-37-0)--0.56977[1] 2. Pac-12 (29-23-0)--0.55769[2] 3. Big Ten (34-31-0)--0.52308[3] 4. Big East (21-22-0)--0.48837 5. Big 12 (21-29-0)--0.42000 6. ACC (27-39-0)--0.40909
not too surprising, basically the same as the total, sec leading it slightly.
but how about the elite? this is where the sec really separates, imo. the sec has been very good when facing elite vs elite.
1. SEC (13-6-0)--0.68421 2. Big East (7-5-0)--0.58333 3. Big 12 (9-7-0)--0.56250 4. Pac-12 (10-8-0)--0.55556[1] 5. Big Ten (4-10-0)--0.28571 6. ACC (4-11-0)--0.26667
simply put, the sec's best has been better than the other conf's best, and it's significant. a full 10% points +.
and it's not just 1 team making the noise (like it is with the pac12 where usc brings the conf up dramatically in the overall). bama, tenn, florida, uga, lsu and au all contributed to that #. (uga is the only one with only 1 game, the rest had multiple).
so, while i agree that the sec has an over-inflated image overall (they are the best, but not by much, top to bottom), their best is usually the best, and significantly.
