Stupid, completely within the law.... Kid has it pointed in a safe direction and finger off the trigger.. I've been shooting since I was about 1/2 this kids age... shot my first deer by 9, and was out hunting by myself when I was 13....
I'd like a suit against the state for harassment...

I agree with your first sentence but not with your second. It speaks to the changing attitudes about what is and isn't ok regarding personal liberties. It would certainly have been a bigger story if they'd gone ahead and forced him to open the safe, but the fact that they tried so hard and felt it was worthwhile to make the trip out there is still a concern.

With Sandy Hook and the other half dozens of publicized shooting sprees, people, the media, and government workers are being a little oversensitive about guns. The head of the Department of Corrections was murdered while answering his front door this morning in Colorado.
The picture certainly looks scarier than my old Marlin 22 that my dad gave me at that age.
Somone saw the photo on facebook and called "Child Protection" The dad is an idiot for posting that picture on facebook and not realizing that people would misinterpret it, given current events.
AR-15s and guns that look like them tend to freak people out. If he was holding an O/U .20 gauge in that photo then no one calls the cops.
Considering they didn't open his safe and they left when they were asked to present a warrant, I don't see how this speaks to "a change in what is and isn't OK regarding personal liberties"

That's not at all what he said. He said it's idiotic to post that picture and not think that there's a good chance people will freak out and potentially do something like this because of the current times.
Reading comprehension is key.

Your missing my point.
When a 16 year old walks into a school and murders 20 kids with an "AR-15" you should think twice about posting a pic of a smiling kid with an "AR-15" on a public forum. (yes I know the gun in the photo isn't an AR-15)
Its called situational awareness.
Kind of like a standup comedian making a joke about hijacking a plane the day after 9-11.
Smart people realize this.
I didn't say there was any correlation between the Doc dude and the boy holding a gun. Unless... one has poor reading comprehension skills.

No. There's a huge difference between saying "it's idiotic to post things on facebook if people disagree" vs. "it's idiotic to post things on facebook when you know it could lead to people overreacting and calling the police."
If you think that's splitting hairs, then I don't know what to tell you. Posting something like "Republicans/Democrats are terrible" has the consequence of a stupid facebook argument. Posting a child with a gun has a reasonable chance to end with the police investigating. That's not splitting hairs.
And I never said the dude should care what people think. He can do whatever he wants. But this result isn't terribly unexpected - people overreact to everything, and when overreacting involves guns, there's a chance the police will get involved. He should have realized that this was a reasonable probability.

both guns have the same damn potential. they're both the semi auto, and the actual projectile is the exact same.
even if it was an "AR-15"... please research a .223 round and then get back to me.

Yes I know I know I know i know, but you are missing my point
I know the difference between a .22LR and a .223. I have shot both thousands of times.
(And no they don't have the same potential. A .22LR isn't even legal to use for deer hunting, while the .223 isn't much different from the NATO round used to kill humans in combat, so don't be stupid) Some AR-15s can actually shoot the NATO round or the .223 Remington
The reason people called the cops is because of what THEY see in the picture, not what YOU see.
The gun the kid is holding was actually a .22LR, hence my point that if he was holding an old Marlin .22, (instead of what most people would assume to be the same "MACHINE GUN" used in Aurora and Sandy Hook), the person that called the cops would have probably thought differently.
That was my point. Not much different than when everyone on the plane used to stare at every "Muslim" that got on board after 9-11.

You're so uneducated on this topic it is almost comical.
The "AR-15" 'NATO' round is a .223. It is NOT designed to kill humans, it is designed to wound. As I said, the actual projectile is the same as a .22.. so no, YOU don't be stupid.
Idc why someone equally as uneducated as you call the cops. Aurora and Sandy hook "assault rifles" were not "machine guns" they were semi-auto .223 rifles. (never left the car in sandy hook)
