SIAP but the Paterno's are defense witnesses for Sandusky?

  • Just read this on the bottomline on ESPN. Does this shock anyone else? I would think that the Paterno's (listed his widow and son) would be mad as hell at Sandusky.

Also is this trial going to be on TV and if so what channel.

    TIA for that one.

I just can't believe how everything that went down that they would be witnesses in his DEFENSE. I saw it and couldn't think of anything but WTF. What are they defending? Paterno didn't do himself any favors but his demise at Penn State is a direct result of this fvcker.

I'm interested in your opinion that the Paterno's are garbage......

    Why do you say that?

No, they will not. They have nothing to say beyond "I never thought Jerry Sandusky was a child molestor in the time I've known him".

Just think about what Sandusky did to them. They probably hate Jerry only slightly less than the families of the victim.

  • It came out in the original story actually. Joe recieved a vague story from McQuery - where Mike was not at all specific in what he told Joe - he then met with two people - his boss Tim Curley, and Gary Schultz - he's the Director of Campus Police. Penn State policy is to report to him any legal issues that occur on campus that revolve around PSU employees. He told them what Mike told them, and then told them to meet with McQuery himself later on. When McQuery testified, he said talking to Schultz was like talking to the DA.

Mike and Joe did what they should have...Penn State failed them, just like they failed the children.

    EDIT

to be clear, Schultz is not a Cop...he MANAGES the cops. It's like you or me walking up the director of corporate security, and telling them of a crime you thought you witnessed.

Yep. The defense would call them as character witnesses only and ask them the questions like: "How long did you know him?" "how did you know him?" "In that time, did he have a reputation for honesty?"

That's about it. If they call them, he won't ask them anything more than those simple questions because he doesn't want them saying anything more. But I doubt he wants them on the stand at all. I would never call a witness for my side if I thought the witness could end up crying on the stand against my client. Especially an elderly woman.

Defend the guy all you want. Did Joe Pa report it directly to his boss? You bet he did. That one instance, he is in the legal clear in my book. He did what he legally should have

Here in lies the issue. These allegations were around for at least what 10 years about Sandusky? And guess who stayed around campus? Guess who was given access to the FOOTBALL facilities? Sandusky.

Don't give me the bs about being emetrius status at penn state. Go use the the Rec center showers for your little fun. Because Joe Paterno had the absolute power to quietly tell Jerry Sandusky don't you f'in step a foot near my football program and guess what there is no way Sandysky would have been anywhere near that program

In my opinion Joe knew something. He knew Sandusky allegedly molested little boys. And if you aren't 100% certain these accusations are false and you have no legal obligations to Sandusky, then cut him loose

Joe Pa may have done the 'right' thing legally but unless someone shows evidence otherwise that Sandusky may have been falsely accused, Joe Pa was absolutely wrong morally 100 out of 100 times. He could have done way more and therefore IMO he deserved his firing

It doesn't matter what power you think Paterno had, you are wrong. Over the last 10-12 years Paterno did not have the power he once had. Spanier and the BOT took control of everything except the football program. Jerry's access to facilities (including the football facilities) fell outside the football program's control.

You can believe whatever you want, but don't be pissed off when PSU fans tell you that you don't know what you are talking about.

  • I really don't have a huge problem with what JoPa did. I have more of a problem with the people he did report it to. Only thing more JoPa could have done was to tell the board either he is never allowed on campus or I walk and tell me story to the media. Puts him in a tough spot though if he wasn't sure exactly what happened though.

One thing about Joe - Judges and cops have been interviewed over the last few months, and to a man they say that joe NEVER approached them about influencing a decision when it came to one of his players in a legal situation. Not even once. Joe was someone who's track record shows that he always lets a situation play out, and he always removes himself from that situation in terms of influence. He told the Washington Post that he didn't follow up because he did not want to influence the investigation, either for or against Sandusky. This is someone who truly believed in allowing the system work situations out. He told them he was there for anything they needed, and then let them do their jobs. It's what he's always done with his players when it came to legal stuff. In this case, it probably meant Sandusky walked at the time, but this is something the man has done over his entire career - it just shows you how twisted life can be.

A very was person once told me nothing is black and white in this world

My post may have insuated that I believed he had all the power in the world at psu (I don't fault you for that, that was my fault). Your post makes me believe you believe Joe Pa had no power what so ever. Guess what? Its somewhere in between, in the gray

Joe could have done something but from all accounts (anyone can show me evidence he did do something other than report it once to his boss, I'm open to have a rational discussion with an open mind) he did not much at all

Would it have been hard to go against the AD and the BOT as you suggest? To fight that uphill climb? I bet so. But the easy thing (let the legal system do its job while he sat in the sudelines) is not always the right thing to do

How joe pa and others could look Sandusky in the eye or know that he is affiliated with the program and sit there and do nothing is beyond me. He is in the moral wrong in my opinion even if joe didn't have much power. He could have done something more

Joe knew nothing. He testified, under oath to God, that he knew nothing about any kind of allegations regarding Sandusky before this incicdent, and McQuery in no way told him any thing specfic, he told him that Sandusky might have been doing something wrong.

The man has a FIFTY YEAR career of being a moral compass. If you truly think he did this with bad intentions, it's because you WANT to believe that, because there is absolutely NO evidence that he would do something morally suspect to protect Sandusky.
