    Despite stated label risks of possible fatal heart attack, stroke or organ failure, college football players across the country are still being given injections of a powerful painkiller on game days so they can play while injured, an ABC News investigation has found. The drug, a generic version of Toradol, is recommended for the short-term treatment of post-operative pain in hospitals but has increasingly been used in college and professional sports, and its use is not monitored by the NCAA, the governing body of college sports.

    I promise you that all schools have these "shots" that they give players for mild injuries. I'm not going to jump on USC for this one. Anything that can go wrong for that school, seems to be happening though.

  • The most AMAZING thing to come of this story, in my opinion, is that the NCAA does not track the use of this drug and other pain killer injections. These asshats will nail a program for holding a kid in practice too long, sending a text message when he shouldn't, or supplying books they're not allowed to have paid for -- BUT THEY DON'T TRACK PAIN KILLER INJECTIONS?

    God damn, NCAA, you are seriously WORTHLESS.

    Not that we didn't know that.

    But JESUS.

  • I"m sure it's because medical doctor's have to approve the shot before it's given. Does that make it any less dangerous? Certainly not, but I'm sure that is why they don't put their foot down.

    I looked it up. They basically just require that a doctor follow state and federal regulations. Basically, they list it as an ethical obligation and call it good. I can look it up again if I'm wrong, but I think it was Chapter 10.1 Section F.

    I find it hilarious that the NCAA believes people can't be trusted to gamble, but they can be trusted to administer these drugs.

    Right on brother, the NCAA has a hard job but they are failing miserably. The priorities need to change. The ethics need to be upped. I am on shock right after reading so much bad news over the last hour. Good Lors, this world has issues to the core.

    Help him out, tweet it or something. He would never self promote but I read his stuff and its good. Especially something like this that reaches across the borders of Nebraska and into the nation light of sports in general.

  • I used Toradol in the minor leagues. Either Mondo had a low tolerance to NSAID's or he's lying about how it made him feel. It was nothing more than Advil.

    Calling it a painkiller like its an opiate or something is way off base. It's a NSAID just like Celebrex or Ibuprofen.

    Millions of people take NSAIDs everyday, and Mondo is just looking for an easy pay day in court.

    I was about to say this. It is a little more than Advil, but it isn't dangerous unless it is something that is being taken regularly. Of course, everyone reacts differently to different drugs as well.

    It's really a way of taking a numbing agent or painkiller that can be administered locally as to give the maximum dosage to the area in need and not affect the rest of the body.

    You serious? Have you taken Celebrex?

    Any NSAID can cause heart attack and stroke outside of maybe Advil.

    Have you taken Toradol?

    I tore my AC joint twice and took it both times. It's not some super drug.

    Clearly labeled instructions and recommendations if you just look.
    Not doing so is using the Bonds excuse of being shot up and not knowing what it was is pretty damn weak.

    Toradol >>>> advil by a mile. I've had a lot of both and easily can tell a difference.

  • I used various pain killers in the military under a physicians care for wear and tear pain while deployed. Not sure what dose these kids are given, but I did not have any side effects luckily I guess.

    Have to assume every school uses them.
