    Not blindly, no. To rate any kid based strictly on statistics is a big mistake and will get you in trouble. There are 20-30 five-stars in the entire nation. Nobody is getting that rating based strictly on how many tackles their coach reports.

    Grrr, this angers me.

    If film backs up the tackles, that would mean he possessed incredible speed, power, field strength, and absolute demigod like play recognition... all of that would still mean he is not worthy.

    I think it would indicate that he is a great HS player at least. I know who you are talking about but just because someone has great stats in HS doesn't mean they can translate well to college or are better than the guys with a little less stats.

    In all honesty, I agree with you... I was just trying to get something out of Barton... Trey is a tackling machine and apparently and slobber knocker too. I can't wait for him to sign his LOI.

    I agree he is a beast. He's going to move up in the rankings very soon IMO. When people see that Miami, USC, ND,and others are really starting to try and recruit him from Auburn more people wil want to get more tape to evaluate him. I think he will move up in the next rankings because of this.

    The last guy that I remember a fanbase furiously citing stats about was Garrett Gilbert. He was already a five-star but THE STATS screamed that he should have been the top QB. It was SO OBVIOUS.

    Needless to say Garrett Gilbert's stats have not translated to the next level.

    You can debate rankings all you want but you're never going to convince me that a guy should be a 5-star based strictly on stats (especially when that same guy is already rated extremely high).

    What ever happened to Gilbert? Was the offense not fit to his talents, or was he improperly developed?

  • Tackles are an awful statistic to go by. Maybe the kid sucks and all the teams run at him and he tackles them for a 6 yard gain.

    Well if they had film that proved all of this to be worthy of a 5* ranking, then wouldn't that be NOT judging him just on statistics? Think before you post. He's a much lesser player than Foster either way, so it really is irrelevant.

    Nah, I just like to bring up examples from the past in debating rankings. Too often people look at each class in a vacuum. I think it helps to add context by looking at examples from past classes.
