Saban telling Alabama thanks but no thanks

  • I'm pretty sure he said no to the media, not Alabama. Otherwise he would still be in Miami. Not the same as the media reporting that NFL teams saying he said no.

Exactly... IMO what does it really matter, there is no Integerty in the NFL as it is. Nothing wrong with what he did in my eyes, in that profession you got to look out for yourself 1st and foremost

He couldn't have said anything else. There was still like three or four weeks left in their season when the rumors started flying about the possibility of Bama.

He was in a lose-lose situation. It was a lot less egregious compared to what Petrino did to the Falcons.

I loved when some guy on here was like, "He should've just said no comment!" To which I reminded him that "no comment" is the most sure fire way to say "yes" to something without actually uttering the word "yes." To which he replied, "So? It would've been the upstanding thing to say!" Or something to that effect. Idiot.

Well that and initially I don't think he ever thought he would take the job. I mean if it wasn't for Rich Rod's wife, we wouldn't have come back and made the full court press for Saban and made him the highest paid coach in college football.

He had three possible choices. And let's remember he was trying to finish out the season and give it a true effort and not be like those guys that take jobs and dick around until they leave.

    1. Say "Yes, I'm taking the Alabama job." People will respect his honesty but hate that he's quitting on the Dolphins. Players will probably quit a bit on him, too.

    2. Say "No comment." People (correctly) assume that means "Yes" because that's what "no comment" means. All of the above happens with none of the respect for his honesty, instead even less respect for going that route.

    3. Say "No, I'm not going to Alabama." People will hate him after the season but he'll keep support until season's end. Players will not quit on him and may even play a little harder since he says he's staying.

In the end people will hate what he did, but at the time, I can't see how #3 isn't the right thing to do. Or I guess he could do what that scumbag Petrino did and just bail midseason. Though no one wants to talk about that. Because we only care about liars who beat the sh!t out of everyone else. coffee

  • At the time he was not planning on taking the Bama job. It was in the next few days that his wife helped change his mind and they decided that they would rather coach in college. I don't get why people really think its that big a deal. 99% of coaches will deny they they are interested in another job if asked during the season.
