Saban to the Browns rumors heating up

Dream on. Les couldn't even screw up what Saban built at LSU. He rebuilt Bama better.

Yeah.. Before Saban.. How many coaches did you have before you won another MNC?? If he's gone, you bet your ass other teams will catch up, and pass Bama.

I've heard it's Saban, Chip and McDaniels, in that order. However, Saban is unlikely and Chip would want full control, which is something that only Saban could get.

That is actually different from what I've heard. I've heard that the connection with Saban and the Browns would actually be through a gm named Mike Lombardi. I guess they are friends but that is all I know. Seeing as though the Browns and Holmgren parted ways fairly recently though it makes sense.

I know that the Browns first choice will be Saban. Now he could certainly be using this as a tool to get himself another 2 million a year or so, which Alabama will pay. He could also really want to see if he can't get him a Super Bowl ring before he retires. I mean if he beats Notre Dame, he would already have 4 national championships. That alone puts him in the top four of all time. Not a whole lot else that you would have to prove. Him being 61 doesn't exactly give him a ton of time if he wants to give it another shot.

Then again, I wouldn't put it past Saban to try and get more national championships in college football history than anyone else in history. First and foremost, I'm worried about beating Notre Dame hopefully. After that I'll worry about Saban's situation. At least you know with Saban that he's not going to let this lose sight of what's in his grasp this year either.

One way or another, you have to think that if he stays at Bama for next year, he'll be with us until he retires. Fingers crossed.

You know full well that we will be able to cherry pick his replacement. We won't have to worry about the likes of Rich Rod turning us down, much less even resorting to interviewing a scrub like him. Say it happens and he goes to the Browns, I would love to see us make a move for Andy Reid. Lord knows that the man could use some stability in a college atmosphere after what has happened with his sons, AND the man can certainly deal with the pressure of being the Bama coach. If you can deal with the Philly fans for over a decade, you can deal with our fans.

It would be hilarious if he does bolt for the league again, because the meltdown on BOL would be epic. To bad I cannot read the board since I am banned

I disagree, 2 or 3 years ago it would have been meltdown and some would still go nuts but Bama is at the top and coaches would be champing at the bit to land the bama job unlike when Saban took it. Coach Saban has created a monster in Tuscaloosa that is not going anywhere anytime soon. Les Miles is an idiot but the LSU name recruits for itself now, Saban created that, I give Miles credit for keeping it going. I assure you bama would get a top coach or promote Kirby and still be stacked with #1 recruiting classes for a few years.

I would say thank you Coach Saban and good luck in Cleveland!!! RTR

2 national championships in the last 3 years, what more could we ask for?lol Besides a 3rd onw in January before he leaves.biggrin

Roll Tide baby!! Bama is at the top and win or lose in January and with or without the greatest coach of our era Bama will be there for a long time, deal with it!!!

    Good dayfishing

Ummm, Look in the mirror, LSu right now is what Nick Saban created, not lester not gerry dinardo, Nick Saban created what is happening in red stick. Les deserves credit for keeping it going and I assure you the foundation Coach Saban has laid would make it easier for a coach to come in and keep it up al la Lester at lsWho.nono

The difference is LSU has homegrown talent that will never go away.. If Saban leaves and the new guy can't get those beast OOS recruits, Bama won't be nearly as good.

Personally I hope he doesn't leave. I want him to be there when the NCAA sanctions hit.

Yeah last I knew he ran a clean program and cleaned things up there when he took over. I don't know of 1 violation he's had since coaching all his time.

Technically, that homegrown talent was there before Saban got there and it wasn't helping too much. 4 other HC's have won National Titles at Alabama and 7 others have won conference titles at Bama. There may be peaks and valleys, but Alabama isn't just going away.

Even if Saban stayed 20 years, it would be foolish to think that Alabama would always be THIS good. If the 3 in 4 years happens, it will be the 3rd time ever. Bryant was close a couple of times, but it's not something he even accomplished.

The source laid out the timing of how current Browns coach Pat Shurmur will be fired after the season, one or two candidates will be interviewed (complete with the name of a minority candidate) and that Saban will be hired on Jan. 8, the day after Alabama’s BCS title game tilt vs. Notre Dame.

    Ummmm. OK

Over the weekend, both Peter King and I spent time kicking tires and shaking branches on the question of whether Alabama coach Nick Saban will at some point soon not be the Alabama coach and instead coach an NFL team.

King learned that the likelihood of Saban shedding the Tide for the Browns in the coming weeks remains extremely small if not nonexistent. I learned that Saban currently hasn’t percolated to the top of the NFL “A” list because no one believes he’s ready to return to pro football.

    You don't know shit.

There is no point in coming on a board with people that have been doing this thing for YEARS and trying to act like your some kind of insider.

If there was something coming, under the Saban regime, journalists that actually are insiders would be on that like stink on $hit. Accusations are not going to be held back by a journalist trying to break a story before someone else when it comes to a three time national champion about to play for his fourth.

    Just stop it

  • The difference between Les Miles taking over LSU and Kirby Smart taking over at BAMA is that Les was a successful HEAD COACH at okie st. meanwhile the verdict is out on Smart as a coach because he held the shirt-tail of Coach Saban for years...

no doubt that Bama has the resources to find a awesome coach...but just because a foundation has been laid down doesnt mean that its always an easy transistion....just look at NEBRASKA in the 90's for example Tom Osborne laid down the foundation for his team and they havent been the same since he left...

We have won forever. Much to the chagrin of our rivals, Saban did not create Alabama from scratch. We have 23 SEC championships (Saban has 2 @ Bama). 2nd place is Tennessee with 13. He rebuilt it.

and the sky is blue...i never said bama wasnt great....so NEBRASKA isnt a powerhouse and they didnt have a legendary coach lay the foundation for the next coach in waiting...all im saying is that its not as easy as you may think to follow a successful coach as an assistant...

just look how long it took bama to find a successful coach before saban....15 years to be exact

you dont replace a saban, JoPa, Bear, or even a bowden that easy sir...

    thats all im saying

I met Bruce Drennan at the Horseshoe Casino last week. Which is pretty funny if you know anything about Drennan's background.

    (I didn't bring it up)

Lol, that is funny as hell. He sure has no problem bringing it up on his show. How do you like that place? I was at the horseshoe for my buddies bachelor party kickoff. Somehow woke up with a 200 dollar voucher in my hoodie pocket. Apparently I got lost in the casino at somepoint and didn't realize it had multiple floors. I do remember our waitress at the tilted kilt. She kept giving me funny stares when I pulled out my pint of vodka and took some gulps har har.
