Saban's take on Champion's Only Playoff...

Wisconsin was solid a couple of years ago if not for a couple of last minute hail marys.

Can't wait for Alabama A&M's NCG.

    The band would win imo.

I wonder if the MJ guy realizes that he's arguing for a playoff system that excludes all historically black colleges. I'm pretty sure that makes him a racist.

There are very few black colleges up north.

    Why is that?

    Too cold.

Pretty sure they have colleges in the North, so I'm not buying your story.

Yeah, but no black ones. I saw a South Park episode once where it explained why black people hate snow. Has to do with camouflage for their enemies.

To clarify: historically black colleges. I can't define it and I've never looked up the definition. I've just kind of taken it at face value.

It almost seems that some are advocating a playoff that mandates that teams that win @ mediocrity are included.

Um, mediocrity was included when the NCAA decided to allow these shitty ass conferences into their league .. either include all conferences or kick them out .. CFB is the only sport that half the league isn't even qualified to play for title before the season even starts .. and that is beyond stupid ..

Because that game the 11-1 team lost mattered as much as any playoff game. Thats what they mean by the regular season mattering.

It didnt last year. That first game between LSU and Alabama was nothing but a scrimmage that actually hurt the team that won, and rewarded the team that lost. Anyone who is not an Alabama fan who thinks that system is in any way fair is lying.

Blah blah....the best team won the NC. The system got it right.

Second, without regard for my own personal opinion, I would simply refer to the fact that it is the only sport actively trying to change as evidence that it needs to change.

This is factually incorrect. MLB just changed their playoff this year. CBB is in the process of looking at change as well. MLB and NBA changed their playoffs in recent years. Changes to postseason happens all the time among all the different sports. Some for the better, some for the worse.

I haven't even watched a single NBA playoff game year this year because it has been 2 weeks and we still haven't completed the first round. I would be tired of it by the finals if I started watching this early. Just because another league has a different system doesn't mean it is always better.

I do think an 8 team playoff in CFB would be ideal and a 4 team playoff is a start. I just think it's funny that while the SEC has pushed for a 4 team playoff for years now, it took last years results to get the rest of the conference on board.

Oh. I thought you meant very few black individuals in the colleges in the north. That might explain why the colleges in the north want an affirmative action playoff system that lets them compete for national championships, despite their racial homogeneousness and resultant suckitude.

Funny he says that the commissioners need to be above having agendas.

I think you missed the point. The point is that the 4 best teams should play for the title regardless of conference affiliation. example: LSU wins conference. Auburns only loss is to LSU. FSU wins ACC with a 9-3 record and gets automatic bid. Do they deserve it over Auburn?

In that special case, yes. Substitute Vandy for auburn and absolutely not.

  • I would not mind a stipulation, that you could get in without winning your conference, but get a win over another bcs conference champion. Maybe it would spur more tough inter-conference play. So many schools are taking the easy way out, and scheduling 3 sometimes 4 easy OOC games.

This is completely silly. You have to accidentally schedule the team that wins another conference 3-4 years in advance.

Not necessarily. You can pretty much bank on either Michigan or Ohio St winning the Big-10, USC or Oregon the PAC-12, Texas or Oklahoma the Big-12, etc,,.. No guarantee of course, but we all know who is likely to win or be in the running to win a conference, or at least a division.

I do wish a true SOS was a bigger part of the bcs formula. Not talking about the garbage NCAA method which is trash, but something like Sagarin's. Really punish teams for scheduling 1AA, and avoiding other bcs conference teams. If we are going to reward teams for taking the easy road, it is not difficult to see why they do it. True SOS is not as big a factor in most computer polls as it should be, and really of the bcs computers only Sagarin, and Massey, have anything close to a legit SOS formula.

Yes, it's silly. What you're suggesting is a system where only about 15 teams would ever really be eligible, because they'd all play each other in the OOC.

Remember I am only talking about teams who do not win their own conference. So win your own conference, or beat another bcs conference champ. Or at least if we have some formula, you get some kind of bonus in it for beating another conference or divisional champion.

I know that. Only a very few programs would ever be eligible for that exception. It would definitely fuck smaller schools. Just give it up.

It would not fuck smaller schools at all, it would help to boost up the more deserving. Boise St had the best team they are ever going have last season and could not get it done. Utah and TCU are now in major conferences. There are no small schools worthy of being in the discussion anymore.

Boise's entire reputation is built upon what they did "last season"; I.E., bowl victories which, all be it, they have done well at. However, you don't give a team a chance at the title based on LAST SEASON, you give it based on THIS SEASON, and quite frankly, winning their conference was in no way impressive because it is a f'ing joke.

Clearly you cannot read. Kid is an idiot and is arguing something that nobody but other backwards bammers are in favor of. When it is only the fanbase of one school arguing for a certain formula that due to bias clearly favor's their school, and that is the sole reason for arguing for it, they have no platform to stand on. That, and the fact that he does not understand the clear distinction between objective, and subjective criteria.
