IMO people who climb Everest don't have any other reason in life to live. You are pretty much scaling an iceberg, and at any point you can die. If it wasn't the tallest mountain in the world, not many would attempt to climb it. Their are several other mountains around the world to climb without those kind of extremes.

I'm with you. Would be cool to be the only guy at the party who scaled Everest.
I wonder if all that equipment left behind would bring any good scrap metal $$?

I'm fascinated by the people that are able to but have no illusions that I would ever be able to do it.

K2 and Annapurna are far more dangerous in terms of fatalities than Everest.

"The Annapurna peaks are the world's most dangerous mountains to climb, although in more recent history, using figures from only 1990 and after, Kangchenjunga has a higher fatality rate.[5] As of 2007, there had been 153 summit ascents of Annapurna I, and 58 climbing fatalities on the mountain.[6] This fatality-to-summit ratio (38%) is the highest of any of the eight-thousanders. In particular, the ascent via the south face is considered the most difficult of all climbs"

If I had mountain climbing experience and the money to hire the best guide crews I would absolutely do it. Would be a great accomplishment
