School that brings the most to your conference table

  • For the SEC, I think it has to be the University of Florida. Great academics and athletics. UF has a great business school, great law school and sure I am missing some others. Multiple national titles in Football and basketball. Great success in baseball, gymnastics, and Track & Field.

OSU recently finished second in the Directors cup. PSU was around 10 I think.

Go back and look at Michigan's v. OSU's history in the Directors' Cup. One year does not change the fact that Michigan has been the standard bearer in athletics for the B10 for decades. OSU is solidly in 2nd place, but 2nd place is still 2nd place.

I agree. Along with the other stuff you mentioned, the simple fact of having the best rivalry in all of college sports brings a lot to the big10 table.

  • I think PSU has to be in the dicussion. Sure OSU and Michigan may beat us, but we are right there. We have a great mix of academics and athletics.

I wouldn't say you definitely have the best rivalry in college sports.

  • OSU also brings a lot of garbage too. By saying that doesn't mean I am blind to the good.

No doubt about that. You all are easily #3, but i think OSU and m*chigan are the main attractions of the conference.

  • Not that I want to get into an argument over this, but how superior are PSU athletics to Wisconsin's?

Two things hurt PSU. One, you need a men's basketball team. Just throw some money at a top tier coach. You have as much money as OSU and UM and you need to start writing some checks (like you did with wrestling). Second, when JoePa retires, if you get the right coach, you will be back in the national discussion very, very quickly. PSU is a sleeping giant that should be battling for B10 championships and national championships every year. I love JoePa and no way should you push him out, but you seem to be in a bit of a holding pattern until he retires.

    who then? Army/Navy, Bama/AU? Duke/UNC?

Bama/AU is the closest IMO. Duke/UNC would be ahead if they had a football rivalry. I tell people all the time here in NC, you cant be considered the best rivalry in college sports because of basketball. We're in America and people care about football 10 million times more than basketball.

Then basically you are saying PSU has been #2 for the past 3 years right?

Yea I agree. I think we will improve in basketball in the next few years. The new guy we just hired seems like he's going to be a good one and should really improve the basketball team. As far as football, we are definitely a sleeping giants right now. Hopefully this will be Joe's last year, he has lost it and is only hurting the program now. Once he leaves, if we can get an Urban Meyer or someone like that then I think you'll see us be a top program again.

I say UNC/Duke is the best. Just because it's basketball doesn't mean its less of a rivalry.

I wasn't arguing placement for anyone, I was just introducing that into the conversation. With that said, both schools have recently spent a lot of time in the top 10.
