If you give two squirts about humanism, the future, or STEM programs then buy Peter Diamandis' book, Abundance: The future is better than you think. I am reading it now and it's amazing. Starts off by addressing why is it that humans love negativity, believe the future is going to only slightly better if we are lucky and why humans cant understand that techs are becoming exponential and global.

The 400 breeds of dogs man has created say otherwise.

One thing Diamandis writes is that through a few already in implementation phase techs could create an abundance of food and water for the entire world.

The most interesting was that we are already capable of growing organs and parts out of stem cells. We've all seen the ear on the mouse. They can do it in a petri dish now. Scientists can basically grow a chicken breast or wing or a steak from stem cells and so the cows dont have to exist. All but eliminating herd animals such as cows from the earth would make an order of magnitude difference in the environment.

That same tech, which WILL begin providing food for billions within 25 years will automatically bring about cheap organ replacement. If they can grow a chicken liver and sell it for 2.99 do you think they could still charge 250,000 for a heart? Not with where the web will be by then. The know how and tech would be pirated or just simply the price would be driven down by protest and Anonymous folks.

With regards to water, eliminating the herd animals as stated would make a colossal difference in water too. Couple that with the global movement to vertical, hydo and aero-ponic gardening and we wouldnt even need desalination till 2100 most likely. But by 2020 they believe nano-fabrics will have that exponentially improving every 5 years as well.

If that ends up being the case, our entire thinking on social order, means of government and economics are going to have to change. Look at what stabilized or declining populations are doing to countries in Europe. We are an adaptive species. Hopefully that remains to be seen.

Malthus and soothsayers on population never really envisioned what the social side of humanity can bring. That's the only way we will see TFRs over 2.0 in the industrialized worlds. Evolution in thought.

This is pretty revolutionary. We talked about this in a physics class once. Blending energy production into construction to minimize its intrusiveness. Just amazing.
