Scottie Pippen says Lebron James is the best player ever. LOL

  • I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet, but Scottie Pippen said on Mike and Mike this morning, on ESPN, that Michael Jordan is the best scorer to ever play the game. Lebron James is the best player to ever play the game. That's just crazy talk. MJ is the best scorer and player to ever play basketball.

I think he is contending with Desmond Howard for that award.

What did Desmond say? I'm sure it would be hard to surpass what Pippen said. He didn't say Lebron could be the best player ever. He said he IS. Lebron hasn't won anything and he's the best ever. That's just stupid.

I will always listen to what Scottie Pippen has to say. He is one of the top 50 greatest players ever and when he says something it's worth listening too. But, I find it rather amusing that the guy who played with and won 6 titles with a dominant shooting guard would say that a guy with no rings is the best ever. I have yet to find a list of top 10 players in NBA history that has someone listed with 0 titles.

If someone other than Pippen had said this, most people would just laugh and move on. But Pippen played with MJ and he should know better than anyone how great MJ was.

Lebron is not in the ballpark right now.

  • Downplaying Jordan, even a little, makes Pippen look more important/vital to the Chicago championship teams to the casual NBA fan.

Don't get me wrong, MJ was and is the greatest. But LeBron could by all means get to his level someday.

    Quick question though...

If someone plays with MJ but doesn't play with James, can he better judge the two than someone who played with James but didn't play with Jordan?

I know what you are saying, but I found the logic funny even though it does seem like the masses are using it.

" 'Is Denard Robinson going to stay or leave?' I'm like, 'Hey, if the kid wants to go, don't let the door hit you on the way out. You looked fantastic for five games against nobody. That's what you did.' I'm not going to deny his talents, but, 'You ain't won nothing in Ann Arbor, son! Not so much we need to worry about if you're going to be here next year or not.' "

Pretty much attacked Robinson for no reason.

This makes me think back to what MJ and Charles said, tho Charles has never won a tittle,MJ has never ever had to join forces with another elite superstar in hopes to win a tittle.

    No idea.

I don't really care what they say (it's their opinion afterall), but to try and single out the most humble of the players and try to portray him as a me-first guy is just wrong. Robinson is nothing but a team player and even rallied around Forcier when Forcier was the starter and was struggling.

a little off topic but what happened with Forcier and why did he almost jump from a 3 story window? Drunk? Suicide?

I thought he said he could be the best player ever. Not is the best player.

He said MJ is greatest scorer ever, and LBJ might be best player ever.

Which can be interpreted as "might be or might not be" or as implicitly suggesting that its possible that down the road he might be best ever.

OP transformed that into Pip unambiguously stating that LBJ is right now better than MJ ever was...to stir the pot a little, I suppose.

But I agree with OP that clearly MJ = GOAT. And LBJ would need a few rings to get into the discussion IMO; For as prodigiously talented and physically gifted as LBJ may be, he has yet to prove the "cold blooded killer" competitor element of the equation, a quality which Jordan posessed in unsurpassed quantities, and which may have been MJ's greatest gift.

He actually said "may be" which I guess is close to "might be". By him not saying "may be at the end of his career" he made it sound as if he is already saying LBJ is the best player.

Jordan went 6-0 in championship games. LBJ is 0-1. I think LBJ can jump into the Top 5 but I don't think he will be the best ever at the end of his career.

I agree with your last statement and I think all of us would agree that LBJ needs to at least match the 6 rings or maybe more to at least be in the discussion. For me, he would have to anyways.

  • Here is the exact quote made:

"Michael Jordan is probably the greatest scorer to play the game," Pippen said Friday on "Mike & Mike In The Morning" on ESPN Radio. "But I may go as far as to say LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game because he is so potent offensively that not only can he score at will but he keeps everybody involved.

Apparently someone agrees that Lebron is the greatest since they gave a downvote. lol

To add on further, he also stated that when players are on the court with LBJ they all become scoring threats... To hear him imply that LBJ makes his teammates better than MJ did is really surprising to me...

When he was on NBA TV, after Dallas swept LA, he stated another "telling" comment... He said that Phil Jackson was so great because he taught him, Pippen, how to play alongside MJ... He said that it wasnt always easy play with MJ but Phil helped him out alot in doing so...

Did these guys have problems? Ive heard plenty of MJ stories... For example him punching teammates in the face during practice... But I never thought anything of it because its MJ...

Im not a Lebron fan in the least, I actually got DWade over him at the moment due to Wade's ring...

But, the Heat are VERY good and unless CP3 teams up with Dwight Howard, they just might win 6-7 in a row...

He might overtake MJ at that point... JMHO
