Second half of the Olympics...

not nearly as interesting IMO. Gymnastics, swimming, whitewater, rowing etc. will all be over and then we will just have track javelin etc. I'll still watch it, but the events aren't nearly as cool.
BTW how is the USA at track and field? Seems like swimming is our best sport and the majority of our medals are behind us.

Wonder how many other people feel this way? Until recently I don't think the US was really a swimming power. But we have been a track and field power for my entire life. Maybe even going back to the days of Owens or Thorpe. Track, expecially the sprints, was also the glory event of the Olympics before Phelps. It will be interesting to see if swimming keeps it's spot once he is gone.

No, you can go back to the reintroduction of the Olympics in 1896, basically the beginning.

I highly disagree. You have track which we will still win 20-25 medals in and the knockout rounds of every sport. Vollryball, tennis, basketball, soccer, water polo, etc. also, diving used to be a top level event in the Olympics until the us sucked at it - but doing well this year. The 50m will be swept by Jamaica but is still event 1a in the Olympics.

When i think Olympics, i tend to think of events that were around during the first Olympics...

I would much rather watch dudes run than gymnastics. I like to watch gymnastics, but get frustrated because I have no idea who is doing well. I know who is doing well when they run. I love the decathlon. I know that the female all around and the 50m sprint are probably 1a and 1b in terms of what people watch, but to me the decathlon is a true test of an olympian.

I'll give you Hockey, but no to the other I don't really like olympic Basketball. I haven't watched a single game. It's all just a matter of preference though..

Track and field is the best part for me. 4x100 relay, 100 meter, 200 meter, etc

There is a reason track and field is the last events, and that is because it the main sport of the Olympics. Also hockey will never be as popular as basketball in America.
