Seeded 4 team playoff approved according to ESPN

  • although it is unclear right now, that does not necessarily mean top 4 the way I interrupt it. It is not BCS controlled so the BCS ratings will go out the window

    Everyone is assuming seeded 4 means top 4 but the selection committee will be filled with Homers from conferences, teams, states etc like always. The BCS did as good a job as they could to get politics out of it. With a Committee Politics is back in full force.

    Expect top 2 to always get in and 3,4 will be whoever wins the politics out of the top 10

    Supposed to carry weight with strength of schedule, conference champs etc.. but as well all know perception carries more weight with committees than anything else.

    This years BCS regular season final we had
    1 LSU
    2 Alabama
    3 Ok State
    4 Stanford

    If Strength of schedule and conf champ modifies were simply added into the BCS Oregon at 5 would have passed Stanford to get in the playoff

    Without BCS they only have the coaches poll and AP to go on who are routinely conference Bias.

    I am not saying this is bad, just thinking out loud of some of the future problems.

    Me personally I would have liked to keep the BCS ratings and just have that top 4 play it out rather than a "selection committee" that will become more corrupted than congress

  • I just have a hard time thinking the selection committee that will be un biased.

    Lets say Wake Forest wins the ACC, goes undefeated, beats the number 2 SEC team Out of conference and finished #3 in the coaches Poll

    But the top 6 Looks like this
    1. Alabama
    2. Texas
    3. Wake
    4. Notre Dame
    5. Ohio State
    6. Michigan

    Do you really think the Selection committee would even be close to choosing a deserving wake over the blue blood programs?? They wouldn't have a chance.

    The committee should be a factor in the BCS instead of the Harris poll and or coaches poll but should be combined with computer polls, strength of schedule, etc..

    Still gives them a better shot than the BCS would have. I actually think this will give us a better chance to see a Boise State or a similar team make it to the championship. You'll still have controversy most every year but this is positive progress.

  • This will cause more controversy than the BCS format ever did. It's beautiful. Every year over the last 20 years there's been 2-3 teams that could have been considered a top 4 team that ended up outside that ranking.

    That was always the problem, they haven't earned it. This is great for the 5 power conferences.
    It doesn't matter what any Poll looks like either. The committee is probably going to do their own poll, that we will never see.

    When Notre Dame gets in when they finish the season 10-2 and #9 in the Coaches Poll over 2 top 5 conference champions everyone will change their minds about this, but like Hook 'em said- we are stuck until 2025

    The only think i hate about this proposed playoff is the selection committee... there is just no possible way a human can't be bias towards a certain region, team, or conference... should just keep the bcs or have some sort of adjusted ranking system to find the best 4 teams imo

    Notre Dame wont get in over a 1 loss champion from the 5 power conferences. The great thing about this is teams like Boise will never get a shot to be in the playoffs.
