Semper Fi Bowl check-in notes...

  • It is check-in day and Barton Simmons and I are hanging out at the Hilton Anaheim Convention Center doing interviews and catching up with prospects, coaches, parents and other media...

    Five-star RB Alex Collins passes the eyeball test and is extremely polite and intelligent. Very impressed with the things he said and his decision-making process in terms of a school. He told me there is no leader, backing off of Florida and will visit Arkansas. There's another SEC school he likes, too, but he's running out of officials and will head to Miami (1-18) and Arkansas (1-25).

    Barton spoke with Thomas Duarte who will announce at the game. We think it's UCLA or Oregon.

    Just saw Auburn commit Tashawn Bower walk in. Looks good. Says he gets good vibes from the new AU staff. Barton is talking with him now.

  • That hotel is sick. We stayed there this summer and took the family to Disneyland, Lego Land and Angels game. I've stayed at a ton of hotels easily one of the coolest I've stayed at. The biggest problem is parking there. My kids loved the swimming pool play ground. It was going through some construction when I was there. Same time as the Elite 11 was doing on in Del Mar I believe I went to watch Austin Allen perform. Bet he loves being back out in Cali 5 months later.

  • I'll have a full Day 1 diary from Alex Collins coming first thing Monday morning.

    It touches on his travel from Florida to California, his thoughts on his first trip to the west coast and a look at what's in-store for him during his week at the Semper Fidelis All-America Bowl.

    That said, he forwarded me a few photos he took of the Players Lounge, where most of the recruits will be hanging out.

  • It's a good set-up and the kids are having a good time so far. Plenty had long flights from the East Coast today.

    Practice gets rolling at 1 p.m. eastern (10 a.m. Pacific) in the morning. I will be with the East and Barton Simmons with the West.
