Did he look like a top 25 player in the country to you? I'm asking not to be a dick, but because it sounds like you've seen more of him than anyone else on here.

This sight gets way too carried away with rankings. I've worked both saban's and dantonio football camps. At night I've got to watch 7-7 with their college players I've seen 100's of very good hs qb's. Gun to my head I say this kid will be a too QB in the league in three years.

I can't tell you "top 25" stuff. I'll let you argue that. This kid is good.

I think he's underranked, but that's irrelevant. Rankings don't matter. You will not have to line up across from his ranking coming out of HS two years from now. You will have to line up across from him after two years further honing his skills at Michigan. He will be a much better player by then. So whatever you think of him now, it's a moving target and he's only going to get better. And you clearly already think enough about him to start this thread. That tells me you are worried. You should be. He is going to be a very good college QB playing behind one of the best OLs in the country. Throw in a handful of very good RBs and WRs/TEs and a top 10 D and we are going to be one of the best teams in the country. Ignore and/or mock what Hoke is building in AA at your own peril. You did the same thing with Belein and our hoops program and look how that turned out. In any event, good luck with your spread offense and Luke Fickell in charge of your D. You are going to need it.

And you will need somone to throw in that hand full of playmakers!

Shane Morris will do the throwing. That's what QBs do. Now run along.

Wut? If we get Green then WR and potentially CB (although not for a couple of years since Taylor and Countess are pretty good) is the only position where Michigan won't have size and speed. Every other position we've recruited extremely well at.

Honestly, if you had said that Michigan needs a couple of good WR's and a good RB then I would have said you had made a good point. But acting like we haven't recruited well on defense is just wishful thinking on your part.

I feel like everyone has to change the original argument to make their point on this site. I never said you haven't recruited well. I just don't think you have recruited to the point of competing with the top 4-5 teams in the nation consistently. Your o-line recruiting has been excellent. After that I don't feel that you have an elite group. You have a lot of players that are fast, instinctive, or big, but not all three. Poggi is a great example. He is an awesome player with a great motor but I don't think he'll be big enough against the best o-lines. Jourdan Lewis is another, I don't think he's big enough for elite big receivers or to be physical enough in run support. McCray is another, where he seems to be on the smaller side and lacks elite athleticism. Clearly your RB and WR recruiting is an issue although Green would go a long way to helping the RB's. I don't think that your recruiting is going poorly. But I don't think you guys will be competing for a national title in the next 4 years. I have no doubt you disagree and I don't think you're crazy for it, I think an argument can be made, but that's my opinion. At the end, we won't know until we see how these kids pan out.

You know I've always been as straight up as possible. I wish he wasn't as good as he is. If narduzzie is still with us, you won't score more then 17 anyway. biggrin

The problem is no one cares what you think. And what you think is very different than what your own coach thinks and what many elite coaches around the country think. Many of our defensive recruits have/had offers from OSU (see e.g. Ondre Pipkins, James Ross, Dymonte Thomas, Henry Poggi, Mike McCray). And many also have/had offers from places like Bama. In fact, Poggi, the guy you just mentioned as a "great example" of a player not able to compete at an elite level, currently has an offer from Bama and Saban is still recruiting him hard trying to flip him. And he also has an offer from Urbie and OSU. But you don't think he's good enough? Yeah, ok. It certainly puts the rest of your "observations" in perspective.

You do realize that only the top 40 or so players in the country possess all three of those traits right? And no one is signing 20 of the top 40 players in the country (although USC is trying).

I love it when Ohio fans criticize our recruiting at skill positions while touting their own. Who the heck do you have? Elliott and Marshall? We are rumored to be getting Derrick Green, who is 10x better than Elliott, and we already have Deveon Smith as well. So we are basically talking about one WR. We picked up two very good WRs and an almost certain All B10 TE last year (you will see them in 2013). And I watched Jalin Marshall in the UA game yesterday. Not exactly a world beater and what is he, 6"? We are looking for bigger WRs and if the big gap in skill players you are talking about is one player, Jalin Marshall, put me down as unimpressed.

Also, FWIW, I was hoping to compare Shane Morris to your 2013 QB commit, J.T. Barrett, but I didn't see Barrett in the game yesterday. Was he injured? I mean, he must have been invited, right?

Funny you should ask about our QB, yes he is injured. He also dominated big boy football in Texas. Lol funny how Derrick Green is 10x better than Elliott, but Elliott is ranked higher. By that logic I could argue our QB is 10x better than yours? Yeah Marshall who lead the UA game in receiving yards, of course he's our top wr target and would be yours as well. Then once we get Gibson, Quick, Elder, or Wilson we will have 2 better wrs in our class than your top guy, as well as a top 2/3 TE. Lol when you just make stuff up it makes you look desperate, but then again you are a Michigan fan.

True. You can also look at their offer lists. There's no comparison. Green's is a who's who of everyone from USC to Bama to Oklahoma to Michigan. Elliott's not so much. It's basically OSU, Georgia and ND (two of which also offered Green). LOL at the Nuts thinking Elliott is in the same conversation with Green.

By that logic, your WR's over the last two years are barely MAC caliber. I'm not sure how OSU could have a higher ranked class according to everyone...clearly all of the UM kids are 10x better than the OSU kids...I wonder when all of the experts are going to catch on.

UM's class is ranked higher than OSU's on both Rivals and Scout. Even on ESPN, whose rankings most people consider less reliable and/or biased for media purposes, UM is only two spots behind.

  • It'd be like a plumber barging into a Wall Street traders office and telling him he doesn't know what he's talking about in regards to the stock market. These recruiting websites have professionals that do this stuff for a living and all 4 major recruiting sites have Morris highly rated yet UMs rivals think they are all wrong... See how silly that sounds? Gotta love the "I'm not flaming" flaming threads though.
