The problem is no one cares what you think. And what you think is very different than what your own coach thinks and what many elite coaches around the country think. Many of our defensive recruits have/had offers from OSU (see e.g. Ondre Pipkins, James Ross, Dymonte Thomas, Henry Poggi, Mike McCray). And many also have/had offers from places like Bama. In fact, Poggi, the guy you just mentioned as a "great example" of a player not able to compete at an elite level, currently has an offer from Bama and Saban is still recruiting him hard trying to flip him. And he also has an offer from Urbie and OSU. But you don't think he's good enough? Yeah, ok. It certainly puts the rest of your "observations" in perspective.

It'd be like a plumber barging into a Wall Street traders office and telling him he doesn't know what he's talking about in regards to the stock market. These recruiting websites have professionals that do this stuff for a living and all 4 major recruiting sites have Morris highly rated yet UMs rivals think they are all wrong... See how silly that sounds? Gotta love the "I'm not flaming" flaming threads though.

Can we have a real conversation about your boy Shane Morris?
Can some Mich fan (or anyone) tell me why Morris is a 5 star instead of why he doesn't suck. I already don't think Morris sucks. I think he has a really big arm, and is mobile for a pocket QB and that with his physical tools alone Morris is probably a low-mid 4 star prospect. But a 5 star? A top 25 player in the country? I don't think I've seen a top 100 player in the country out of him. A QB prospect with a big arm, but poor decision making and questionable accuracy is like a RB prospect with 4.4 speed, but has questionable vision and a fumbling problem. There's no guarantee that gets coached out of them.
I don't have a clue what kind of career he's going to have (cause lord knows these rankings and college/NFL production don't match up 1-1), but I can't see how his current rating as a high school prospect is justified. He has a big arm, but what else? Accuracy and decision making have been a question forever. Literally every all-star game or competition he's been in he's under performed (if he's really a 5 star player). His high school stats aren't impressive at all, particularly completion percentage. He was out basically all year (clearly not his fault, but is what it is), was having a poor year before he went out, and doesn't even have impressive junior year stats to hang his hat on.
Can anyone make the argument that this kid isn't currently over-ranked (I won't say overrated cause he gets slammed regularly). Not that he doesn't suck, but that he isn't over-ranked. And please don't hide behind, "Apparently you know better than every recruiting site..." like you've never looked at a prospect and had common sense tell you that you think the recruiting sites were wrong.

Embarrassing how some of my fellow M fans act when a buckeye asks a legit question.
IMO, he is overrated, but not by much. I don't care about his ranking, or anyone else's for that matter. I feel that he will develop into a good/great college qb and the leader of our team. I have immense faith in our oline recruiting recently, to the point where they will make any skilled players we have, significantly better. Whether its plowing holes for deveon Smith (and hopefully Derrick green) or giving Shane all day in the pocket.

UM's class is ranked higher than OSU's on both Rivals and Scout. Even on ESPN, whose rankings most people consider less reliable and/or biased for media purposes, UM is only two spots behind.

+1 very good post and I think the kind of conversation the OP was looking for, respectful and honest. I agree Morris has a lot of things anyone looking for a pocket passer would like. I just havent really seen him put it together on the field yet, but I admit I havent seen a ton of him. When I think of 5 star I think of can't miss type players. I'm not sure he is quite on that level, but if I were betting I would put the money on him being a good to very good player in college.

Jesus I'm a Spartan and I can say this kid is very good. He was playing with rat crap awful receivers against some great hs teams. I've been able to coach some summer camps and that kid has it.
As far as work every kid needs work, but you're just whistling past the grave yard if you dint think this kid can toss the pill. Start with the truth and you become more credible on message boards. I'm hoping narduzzi gets a package together to physically kick his ass because he will hurt you in the air.

I think he's underranked, but that's irrelevant. Rankings don't matter. You will not have to line up across from his ranking coming out of HS two years from now. You will have to line up across from him after two years further honing his skills at Michigan. He will be a much better player by then. So whatever you think of him now, it's a moving target and he's only going to get better. And you clearly already think enough about him to start this thread. That tells me you are worried. You should be. He is going to be a very good college QB playing behind one of the best OLs in the country. Throw in a handful of very good RBs and WRs/TEs and a top 10 D and we are going to be one of the best teams in the country. Ignore and/or mock what Hoke is building in AA at your own peril. You did the same thing with Belein and our hoops program and look how that turned out. In any event, good luck with your spread offense and Luke Fickell in charge of your D. You are going to need it.

Hahhahahahahahahhahahahahahaha. What "very good rb, wr and te's" are you talking about?
If anyone should be afraid it's Michigan.... Marshall, Elliott, Smith, Miller, Baugh. Let's not forget about Washington and Spence, Schutt, Bosa, Burrows, Apple, Conley, Price, Mitchell and Johnson are all going to be building one of the best Ds in the nation to stop your lack of player makers and run over your Oline
Great Qbs make your team 100x better... Look at Payton... The Colts went 2-14 or whatever without him....

Michigan had a better defense than OSU this year with half the talent. Imagine when Michigan actually has good players across the board on its defense.
