Cool... I can see your logic. I definitely have Olajuwon in my top three. mine would probably be...
1. Bill Russell. - Player/coach. only one other player in pro sports has 11 rings as a player. (Henri Richard, Montreal Canadiens) 2. Kareem Abdul Jabbar. 6 MVP's and 6 Championships, all time leading scorer, such a great resume 3. Hakeem Olajuwon. - For all of the reasons you described 4. Wilt Chamberlain. - I would love to see him play in today's game, or in the late 80s-90s. amazing rebounder, atrocious free throw shooter. 5. Shaquille O'Neal. - as great as he was, he could have been better with a stronger work ethic. Should have finished higher. Still a beast though and glad we poached him from Orlando.

What's funny is "without a doubt"
Please tell me your evaluation criteria in determining "without a doubt best tandem ever".
In your world MJ and Pippen don't create a little doubt??????? Magic and Kareem??? Cousy--Russell?? If not then

Shaq and Kobe are 2 top 10 players all time.
Pippen and Cousy aren't in the top 10 all time players.
Magic and Kareem maybe but even they didn't work off of each other the way Shaq and Kobe did. Shaq and Kobe could each individually take over a game by themselves. Magic could do it but Kareem was never that dominant.
We will never see another tandem like Shaq and Kobe ever again.

There is a huge misconception about Kareem. He really never was that dominant. He just played for an ungodly loooong time. That's why he has the most points ever, and probably a few other all time records.
Now compared to Shaq in his prime? Fuggeettta bout' it!!!

And yet there's a reason most NBA observers And yet:NBA Statistics inconveniently reflect that in terms of career average per game numbers:
PPG: Kareem>Shaq RPG Kareem > Shaq BPG Kareem > Shaq APG Kareem > Shaq
But we can always ignore the numbers and go with your objective judgment

Dude Kareem never played against great centers. He played against weak watered down defenses of the 70's and 80's. If Shaq played in that era I wonder what his numbers would be. Shaq played in the era of centers throughout the 90's...and was unquestionably dominant. Not to mention what he did at the dawn of the decade. It was tougher for Shaq and he still became top 5 in scoring when it was all said and done. He was simply more dominant than Kareem.
Numbers don't tell you the whole story.
