Shot in the dark here but..anyone looking for an internship?

    Ok, here's the deal.

It pays $1,000 per month I believe. They may have upped it I'm going by what it was for the 2010 season. It's no less though.

Boarding, you could room with the radio team's intern. The broadcaster is my boss.

During the season, home games are long days. Get there at 9:30 AM and leave for home between 10PM and 11 PM.

When the team is on the road, you'll work 9-5 and should the team be on the road for the weekend, you're off.

The organization as a whole is top notch. One of the top MiLB internships out there. Routinely getting guys promoted to full-time AAA and MLB jobs.

You'd move to either Knoxville or Sevierville/Gatlinburg, TN. The job begins ASAP and ends in September. They usually offer the best intern a full-time job following the conclusion of the internship.

If you want to work in major league baseball, you gotta get your foot in the door and this is a great way to do that. Hours suck at times, but the work isn't difficult. If you have a good work ethic, you'll do well.

If you want to be considered for it(my boss is recommending someone Monday to the guy making the hire), send me your resume so I can forward it to my boss. If I send him your resume, expect a phone call from him. He wants to talk to every candidate and make sure they're the right person for this internship. I don't know the situation behind why the internship is available, but I'm guessing the guy backed out at the last second leaving a slot open. This is rare as Tennessee usually gets well over 500 applicants each year for their internships. They were likely going to just be an intern short for now and hire down the road before the first home series, but if the radio network recommends someone then they'll go ahead and hire you.

Thanks for posting that. I retired from an energy related company. All HR looked at was did you have an internship in our field. This was policy set by the board. Can not stress enough that it is an important step to get your foot in the door.

Depends on where you are. I did one that was the most fun experience I have had in my life. I did another that was the worst experience of my life. Just depends on the staff and the community.

Depends on what you work in as well, whether or not you get a break into MLB. Most of them have their own trainee programs, which limits opportunities.

For example, if you want to work in baseball ops.....then MILB is not where you will get any start unless you are helping the team film practices/games. Otherwise, you aren't helping yourself out......if that is the route you are taking.

If you want to do sponsorship/ticket sales/ ticket office, then yeah it helps with experience. Both MiLB internships I did involved doing a rotation of everything. Once I was done, it opened up opportunities for internships with the 76ers (statistics) and Bobcats (ticket office) but I had to turn both down so I could finally graduate.

Like I said though, how much you enjoy it will all depend on the staff and environment you work in. If you don't really enjoy them, you will hate life. During 10 game home-stands, you are working sometimes 120+hours a week (at least we did...getting there at 7-8 AM and leaving at 1-2 AM). Even during away games, we always had some kind of event going at the park that we had to work. Also, 8 am and 11 PM tarp pulls are fun!

Oh, and that was my fun experience. Seriously, it was a blast. But when I got a different team/staff, it sucked. I couldn't wait to leave. So just be warned!

  • If you want to do something like this for the 2013 season, send your resume out to MiLB clubs starting this fall. They have their interns selected by the end of November typically. If you send it out to an entire league(like the Southern League for example), you'll land one of them.
