Should I quit my job

  • I got a job delivering food once I got back to school, first day on the Job was last Thursday. I told the guy interviewing me that I could work every day of the week except Saturday because I have Psu season tix... He says that's fine can you work non football Saturday's and I said yeah but I wouldn't work any home game. I said there was no chance I'd work during a home game.

First shift was that night, I looked at the schedule and he had me working the next home game (tomorrow vs navy) I told him I couldn't and he said he'd take care of it. I come in for my next shift on Sunday asked him about it again "I'll take care of it". Tuesday I come in and the next schedule is up not only still scheduled for the navy game but also the next week (home vs temple) I leave him a note saying I'm scheduled to work this and next home football games and I told you I couldn't work those days.

Yesterday my boss leaves for vacation before I can ask him about this Saturday's shift and he still has me working. So at the end of my shift I explain to the owner the whole situation and it gets taken care of.
Today at work is a note saying that if you get scheduled for a home football game and can't get someone to take your shift., you're expected to work.... Any advice? I wanna quit

  • Quit. If they're not willing to respect your wishes right from the start, it's not going to get better. If you give in, they'll also know they can just roll right over you in the future.

Dude if you need a job keep the job and try and figure it out or find another one. I've made it my policy no matter how much I hate a job, don't quit it till you have the next one lined up. Missing Army aint going to kill you.

This^ If you took the job you must need it. If you can do without the money then quit, it's pretty obvious from the way you explained it that he doesn't think that was a valid reason to be off. He should have been upfront about how he really felt though...

this. You had an agreement prior to your hiring. It is not your responsibility to find a replacement, it is management's responsibility to not schedule you on days that were previously agreed that you would not be scheduled. Your manager is lazy, plain and simple.

That's the plan but at the same time like I've worked there for 8 days and I've already been scheduled for 2 home games like i don't feel like dealing with this for a year

Tell them to do their job and manage correctly. It is not your responsibility to find a replacement. Tell them you will need a raise if you are going to do both your own job, and theirs.

  • If you need the job, DVR the game & let someone use the tix or sell them for that game
(if you are allowed). If you don't need the job, tell em to stick & walk out with dignity in tact.

  • Where are you working?

Regardless, let's be real here... is a college job. I would just tell them that you were hired under the agreement that you would not work any football Saturdays. Tell them that if you see yourself scheduled again for that day, you are just going to disregard it as you have explained to them multiple times that you would not work those days.

No need to quit or get worked up over it. If they have a problem and fire you, who cares? It's just like quitting. If they are cool with it, then you still have your job.

    Problem solved.

Make sure to call them before your next shift to see if you still have a job. You know.... save on gas.
